Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Step bars?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

by midnight » Mon May 03, 2010 6:44 pm

My short wife hates the lift. And wants me to put some step bars on. Any manly one out there?

I'd offer you my stockers... but you're an EXT. Check the OS... or get rock rails.

I happen to have some side rails from what I believe is a Land Rover. All metal, missing the middle leg on one, will definitely require fabbing for use, but a good place to start, especially since I'll give them to you for shipping. Will add pics when I get home and have light.

Yeah post some pics. She wanted it lifted then once I get it up there with a set of $800 tires she says she hates it and unless I get her bars she once it put back to stock.

It's cheaper to keep her.......

I was thinking about going with step bars myself...but with the price of some of these sliders I have seen...I might go with those!
Lift, shocks, wheels and tires installed...need some armor now.

Definitely cheaper to keep her... and we're also getting rid of hummer steps, so I may be able to find some around the dumpster at work... I look every day for interesting stuff. (Around the dumpster, not in it).

I have a company down the road from my office that makes custom carbon fiber stuff.

I dumpster dive all the time. My bike is built from that place

Yeah. They're called rock sliders. Mall cruisers have nerf bars they redesignated as step bars when they upgraded the tubing from 18 gauge to 14. Since when did non-offroad drivers get a vote on functionality? :raspberry:

Well that what I don't want to do. Is loose
the ground clearance I have gained with the lift. I was thinking rock sliders that have foot steps in them.

if you get a body lift, u can get the single steps the only come down when you open the door.

Or the hoopy ones that let you look up your girl's skirt. I suppose that can be called a "functional step", but they're really sacrificial when going offroad.

Actually I was looking into this as well as the wife dosent want to get rid of the running boards and I can't convince her to use a stool, so I will need to also come up with a soultion when the time comes. I was looking at this though http://www.kensperformancesolutions.com/Amp_Research_Bed_Step.html it's small and tucks back up when not in use and I don't think it would cause you to loose any ground clearence.

Looks like a good idea I guess. Although if your foot slips on that shiny paint into the body of the truck it could really hurt.
Saw those on an old site I used to go to. They where used to stop shopping cart dents. Could work. :poke:

It does hurt. I considered putting skateboard tape on the pipe, but the wife and I just learned to be more careful.

You could wrap them in roll bar padding... maybe tape some bubble wrap to the doors?
