A drain plug would sure be nice to have for the future.

And +1 on AC Delco filter and DEX 6

I was seeing deep pans without filters, but I will look around. Would it be a different filter for the extra deep pan?

Is the gasket reusable? Or get a new one?

What i saw was 5 quarts needed if just dropping pan and replacing filter. Correct?

I really have no idea, but since the bottom of the pan keeps the filter in and leve, I would guess so, unless there's a shelf or something...

OEM gasket is reusable, and is preferred to the cork and rubber aftermarket filters.

Says 5, I think, but mine was more like 4.3, IIRC...

Yes gasket is reusable, as for how much needed to refill mine took 6 or 7qts, leaning more towards 6 now that I think bout it. There are two different depth pans. Mine was the deeper one, I don't know how much less the smaller pan takes.

Also if you get a deeper pan a different filter should be used like Mike was thinkin.

JamesDowning wrote:I have heard though... do not have one of the "forced" flushes done on your trans.

There's two ways to do it, I don't know all the ins-and-outs of it, but one forces fluid through the trans, and one uses the trans pump to flush the fluid,... don't use the forced method.

I took the input and output lines off the trans cooler and ran the trans output into an empty container and put the intake line into a tub of new Dex 3... I ran 8 quarts of Dex 3 through the transmission this way... the output fluid looked really clean by that time. It's my understanding that this helps clean out the torque converter from old fluid. Then I dropped the trans pan, changed the filter, and refilled with Dex 6. This method apparently changes the converter fluid while never unfilling it...

It's worked fine for me so far, but I only changed it back in Jan. Similar method to what Mike suggested, just didn't run it as long with the temporary fluid.

So you just used a cheaper fluid to take all the particles with it?
This is an aggressive post. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate a post of this quality and depth.

Yes, no reason wasting the expensive Dex 6 for the flush. Dex 6 is fully compatible with 3, so you don't have to worry about mixing fluids.

Not completely... Anything that came with 3 from the factory can take 6... You're not supposed to put 3 in anything that came from the factory with 6...
