Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Squeak from front suspension

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

by 06denaliman » Sat Nov 23, 2019 4:03 pm

I have a noise similar to the video ive posted below. Ive sprayed things down with silicone spray and even poked very pin hole in boots and sprayed directly into them. The whole front needs done but i really dont have money to do that right this moment i just want to fix the squeak and then come spring mess with all else. Ive replaced front sway bar bushings but not the links. The bushing were very worn. The noise got better but is still there. Was just wondering if anyone has similar nosies.

Without hearing it, I would venture a guess on the swaybar bushings. They are known to squeak.

I have it narrowed down to passenger side. I jacked pass front wheel up and turned wheel back and forth and noise is gone. So im going to replace upper and lower balljoints on pass side. I was gonna get balljoint press kit. My plan was going to leave upper joint attached and release lower joint snd swing knuckle out of way to do lower balljoint and then reattach it and then do upper one. Can it be done with out taking axle out of hub and undoing everything. Its gotten cold and want to be as quick as possible

If you haven't done this yet, look at new upper A-arms, it will save you time and do not really cost that much more typically.

Do you mean new lower arms? The uppers the balljoint is in the knucle not the control arm. Also do i have to replace the bracket that lower control arm bolts to. Or can i just replace the arm itself.

Yeah, sorry, the lowers. You should be able to just replace the lower arm and leave the brackets and just do the arm.

Yeh i was def thinking of just doing the arms. The upper ball joint i hear is the easier one so thats will be fine. Thanks

Are you on GMT Nation too? You'll probably get quicker responses there and a lot more of em. Kind of a sister site to this forum.

Was this resolved? That Vid did not sound like bushings to me. Sounded like a power steering pump. Maybe my speakers suck?

Have not resolved it yet. From what i can tell im thinking ball joints on pass side. But it got 154,000 miles on the front end stuff so im probably gonna rebuild the whole front and throw on a lift kit and everything while im at it. So ill prob do hub assemblys, ball joints, tie rod ends, possibly inners too idk and new struts and sway bar links. Just so everything is mostly fresh. But we will see. Still need to do more diagnostics but from test ive done it seems to be lower ball joint pass side making the noise. Itll go away for a few days then come back so idk
