Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Current engine is dead. What do I do?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

I was driving my TB with the check engine light on. It didn't seem like anything major(just a few sensors) so I was gonna drive it until I could get them fixed. Long story short, she was running great and I floored it for some reason don't remember exactly why, but it started knocking real bad so i parked it at the nearest mechanic and have had multiple opinions since and everyone says it is donezo. Found a i6 engine from a recently wrecked envoy that runs with 100k miles for $900, but I am not willing to get it rebuilt. Should I stick with this engine and hope for the best, try and find a rebuilt i6 for under $2k or try and find a rebuilt V8?

How many miles did you have on it?

That is a bit unsettling. I think identifying what happened if at all possible is first step before I would do anything.

I am in the process of removing it and I will see if I can locate the problem when it is out

I assume you mean rod knock? Have you been good about changing the oil and putting in good oil with good filters? That's about the only thing that I think will kill a lower end bearing.

What are the current engine symptoms? Just bad rod knock? Anything else?

sorry haven't been on in a really long time. I never quite figured out exactly what was the problem, but the cause was my negligence, i didn't notice an oil leak and got the really bad knocking accompanied with a loss in almost all power. I think that she threw a rod through the cylinder wall, but haven't had time to tear it down and see what exactly what happened. I ended up buying a used 2005 engine with a 5 year warranty, just finished putting it in last week. But now it won't start, i have narrowed down the problem to the fuel pump, and i think the cause is either a sensor that I connected to the wrong connector or a sensor that came on the engine is bad but I don't know which ones to start with. any ideas?

There are so many possibilities that its impossible to begin guessing here. Need more data. Are you getting fuel pressure? Is the fuel pump not priming? Are you getting power to the fuel pump?

I don't hear the whir from the pump when I turn the key on and there is no pressure at all in the fuel line. And also I don't know whether it would affect it at all but the gas gauge has not worked for almost 2 years

I'd see if you're getting 12v to your fuel pump plug when you turn the key on to run, and if you are, then check your fuel pressure on one of the gauge ports. If you're getting 12v to it, and you're not getting pressure, then I guess your pump is bad, or you have it plugged up wrong.
