Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Please Help. CV won't go fully into new disconnect.

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

Geez. What a pain. Did the germans make this thing?

I have my new disconnect in, but the CV won't seem to seat fully into it.

It seems like it meets the splines, but will barely go in.

Certainly not to the level the old CV was in there.

What the heck?

On the cv there is a small lip get a screw drive and hammer and tap it in. It will pop in.

I did try hammering on that lip. Not super hard, but I did try a while.

I eventually got it in. Don't ask me how.

I did mess with the little C ring on the end of the CV to as it is what looked like was preventing it from going on.

Then I just tried it again, and it went in!

I wouldn't recommend messing with the C clip. That's what retains your CV axle into the disconnect. If its isn't to spec, it could mean that your retention force isn't high enough.

My trick is to apply antiseize or grease to the splines of the CV shaft, get it into place, then use the plunging motion of the tripod joint to hammer it into place. Grab the driveshaft of the cv axle, and use it as a slide hammer. DO NOT use a hammer on the outside end of the CV shaft, as it will try to transmit the load through the CV joint, which is not made for loading in that direction.

I think I will be OK.

I only tried for a minute using a wrench to squeeze that clip a bit tighter while it was still on the cv.

It didn't even look,like it did anything.

So I threw a bunch of grease on and tried a few more times and it went in.

I don't think,it would ever just come out on its own.

I used a picklefork...
I used a long prybar...
The guy doing my alignment used an even longer prybar...
I bought a slide hammer with a CV attachment...
I used penetrating fluid and put more weight on the slide hammer...

I finally took the disconnect off and had someone with a hydraulic press push the axle out.
