New CV shaft after front disconnect replacement?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

by stastyle » Sun May 29, 2016 12:09 pm

So, after my disconnect gave up on my 07 TB

I ordered the us powertrain 4WD and installed it with no problems, however - my tech pointed out that due to grinding of the bearings inside the disconnect, the CV shaft has a light "channel", which can only be felt by a finger (not deep enough to be seen), just a little bit behind the outer seal towards the inside. He said that water can get inside the disconnect and destroy it (again).
Should i change the CV shaft immediately or its not a problem?

Thanks!

I would. Cv shafts are only like $50. I recommend these cvs from detriot axle http://m.ebay.com/itm/Chevy-GMC-Front-D ... 0408.m2460

In the description it says that the overall length is: 23 3/8", while every other site states that the overall compressed length is supposed to be 27 5/8"..
sounds like a no-go...or am I wrong ?

Must be a typo.... I bought the same cv shaft but in a deal with two other hubs and it has the cv shaft saying it fits both awd and 4wd models. Heres the link to that: http://m.ebay.com/itm/1-FRONT-CV-Axle-L ... 0408.m2460

I just emailed the seller and they confirmed that it was indeed a typo.

I have the Detroit shafts and they worked fine for about 10 months now.

I also put my US Powertrain Disconnect in without replacing the CV shafts at that time, and it was also fine lol.

I have a friend here who imports spare parts, and he said that some cv from detroit axle (although for Jeep), just broke and sheared on the highway after couple of weeks... have you heard about any problems with the Detroit axle cv for TB?

I've had mine for a month now... And ive already gone through two Napa cvs within a couple months, both tearing the boot right after installing them and soon binding up... So from my experience so far, the cvs from detriot axle are pretty good quality, beter than Napas cvs.

Is there an easy way to tap the bearing out? On the other side of the assembly it was fairly easy, but from this side it's blocked with some disc (between the seal and the bearing) and i can't tap it out directly on the bearing... any advice?
