Would like to know the spacing or offset needed to clear the upper ball joint with On my TB I would like to go with 17 inch rims and some nice tires

I believe most guys here run MarkMC's hub spacer or adapter with their stock 17" wheels. I myself got Mark's adapter for a 6x5.5 bolt pattern and a set of Pro Comp series 87 wheels which are -16 offset and I have plenty of clearance.

I think if you have 4.5" or less of BS total you should clear the UBJ. Including adapters I'm at 3 BS and like the way it looks but keeping it clean is a pita.

Knowing what I know now, when we buy an Envoy, we are going to get the adapter's and run normal wheels.

If you want to stick with your stock wheels, you can get the spacers and be good for clearing the upper ball joint. If you want to go aftermarket, as Jrgunn said, I would highly suggest getting ADAPTERS (6x5.5) instead of the spacers. This will open you up to every gm full size truck wheel available. There are very few wheel options for the stock 6x5 bolt pattern. Keep in mind, that aftermarket wheels tend to have less offset (stick out a bit further) than factory wheels. I'm running 25mm offset wheels with adapters. You can check out my Build Thread below to see how far they sit out. I have plenty of clearance at the upper ball joint. Only had to trim the plastic fender liner with 255/75/17's.

I haven't run the Duratracs myself so I can't say. Some others to keep in mind are the Toyo Open country AT 2. Ran them on my TB and now have them on my K1500. They are a good all around tire with great highway manners. I have run them on the road a bit, in the mud a bit and on the beach a good bit. They work great on wet boat ramps as well. A friend of mine just pulled a set off of his 2500 Dodge diesel with over 50k miles and bought another set. The BFG AT KO also has a ton of good reports, here and everywhere else I have ever read. Shop around, your local dealer might be able to give you a better price on one vs the other.

I've had real good luck with the General Grabber AT2. They handled well in everything I've put them through.

I put a set of General Grabber AT2's on mine and I love them so far. Got great all around ratings and they do really well on and off road. I ordered them from TireBuyer.com which offers free shipping to certain tire shops and Firestone is one of them. Also there's a coupon code for like another 9% off if you do some googling.
