Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Adding fogs lights

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

So my trailblazer came without foglights and I would really like to add some. From what I understand, in order to get the trailblazer fog lights I need to first get a front bumper cover that has the fogs lights bracket then get the fog lights and lightbulbs. But i'm unsure about how I'll need to wire them up... I'll need a 893 wire harness most likely but what do i wire that to for power? Straight to the battery? Do I need a fuse in between somewheres? And how will I turn them off and on?

You'll definitely need a fuse, size depends on the wattage/wire gauge of the fog lights. You could go directly to the battery, but I prefer to tie to the "superfuse" on the front of the fuse block since that lug already has plenty of threads left and you're still tying in on the protected side of the superfuse. As for a switch, the size of the switch will also depend on the load it must carry. If you put too much load through your switch, it will burn up.

I prefer to use universal four pin relays so I can use any switch I want but that can be a little complicated to wire up at first but really simple once you figure it out.

Oh, and I used the cleaning rod to an AK to get through the main firewall grommet that all of the other wires go through, it's pretty tough to get through there, you'll need something long and really stiff... (Cue the perverts, heh heh)

Okay it's starting to make sense haha.. I guess i would use the same guage as the wire harness. And i agree with the superfuse idea. Gm terminals suck.
For the power wire would I be able to just cut the power wire and put a fuse in between like i have on my power wires running to my amplifiers. Finding a place to ground it shouldn't be hard either.
And i'd just need a remote wire for the switch? I guess im not familiar with switches.. The only thing i can compare it to is the remote wire used to turn on my sub and door speaker amps.. Finding a place for it won't be hard and getting through the firewall is easy.

I guess my two questions are how id wire the switch and would i be able to put a fuse right into my power wire like i would for the power wire on an amplifier

OK, you said something about a wiring harness, are you installing a stock type switch? If so then that's a bit easier, to me anyway, you'll need a wiring diagram though, which would tell you what color wire goes where.

Ah, then yeah, you'll need a hot, ground, and your own switch. Switch your hot, there's no need to ground the switch unless it's lighted.

Okay that makes a lot more sense. So lets just make sure i got this right.

* I run power from the superfuse to whatever switch i buy.
* I run power from the switch to the bulb harness. Making sure that somewhere I have a fuse.
* Then all i have to do is connect the bulb.

Does that sound right?

If you need something visual to go by:

You don't need the plug, and you can just wire up two of the lights.

The +12 can come from the megafuse.

The switch itself can draw power from the megafuse, or you can draw power from somewhere in the cabin (ideally a key-in power circuit to prevent you from killing your battery by forgetting to turn your lights off - I learned that one the hard way).
