Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Long travel IFS

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

It's just regular ole 1018, and the wire is just generic er70, so yeah, 70k

I'd been doing those curved pieces with a cut off wheel and flap disk previously, it was a pain in the ass and I hated doing it... Really have no idea why it didn't occur to me sooner. The hole saw method looks so much nicer and is significantly faster.

I've mostly just been roughly copying the methods I've seen others use successfully, if I got to the end of the thread and something broke or they commented that they would've done something different I took note. We'll find out how it goes.
I got the next 7 days off, so I'm looking forward to spending some quality time out in the garage and driveway before and after TECORE.

While getting ready to start building the A arms I fit up everything yet again and ran into an issue with a bolt clearance on the CV. In my attempt to keep everything tight I forgot to account for the bolt head height. found some 10.9 button head bolts that should do the job though. But basically I waited for a week or so to get these in to make sure I wasn't going to have to cut the mounts off and redo them.

I also rechecked the shock yet again after finding the bolt head issue. So far so good.

This is probably the first big issue I've ran across while building this thing, hopefully it's the only one.

Don't worry, it'll self clearance.

Are you threading the plate here? or are you just mocking it up with a short bolt?

He was checking clearances and I believe that bolt is in what would be its final resting place. That's why he had to go with a button head bolt.

It's just a shorter 3/4" bolt I had laying around that I jammed in there. It'll get a longer bolt and a nut when it's bolted in.
I generally shy away from threaded holes since it's awful easy to get em buggered up and then it's a disaster to fix/replace.

Just a quick update of today's progress before I head in to work, been working on it all day. Finally starting to look like something.

Epic build thread. I wonder if those Baja Trailblazers they had back in the day ran something similar

Does that lower picture represent the geometry at full droop? Where will the strut mount?

FWIW, just me, I'd like more of a "box" structure on the LCA. Unless what's shown is getting more metal on it, it doesn't look torsionally very strong.

That's why I was asking about the location of the strut. Right now, as pictured, there really isn't any torsional loading. Depending on where that strut mount goes, that could all change.

That's a big part of it, but there will also be torsional loading when the control arm hits a rock.

It's only about half done, I still gotta put a top plate on it, put in a shock mount and box in all the sides. I was just checking clearances there.

I plan on bringing the shock mount up from the bottom plate through the top plate so the whole A arm has to come apart to rip it out. The A arm is probably overkill, and excessively heavy, but I figure it's better than the alternative.
