I've been considering doing just that with my stock 17s, which are a slightly different style. I don't care much for the all black rims that seem to be everywhere now, but I do like the "combo"look. My rims have some of the OEM finish lifting, so I'll try to use some stripper on them first, then buff the parts that will stay alloy, paint the rest black, then clear coat all of it.
Yeah I've done several of the all black look for people but lately I been doing the "machined" look alot, especially for the chevy 17s on the 03s and the 18s and 20s from the 07+ chevys. My favorite I've done so far is the 20s.
Also when you clear coat it make sure to do it thin layers at a time otherwise it will "milk" over..
