Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

heres my 02 TB on one ton running gear. Dana60 front 14 bolt rear with 5.38 gears and spools. She sits up on 52" ford 1/2 ton leaf springs front and rear and 39.5 iroks. all stock drive train. running a toyota IFS steering box and rock ram hydro ram for assist and 14" bilsteins.

looks spiffy! I dig it!

Why didn't you completely weld the steering box plate to the frame? What's up with the lack of weld on the pitman arm (looks like there needs to be a second bead ran on the top portion there)?

The steering box plate will be welded more when I clean up the frame. The pitman arm something I'm testing. So far so good.

I got this truck this way mostly.. ive done quite a few SAS builds.. if you can do the work yourself and know how to source parts and make deals, probably in the neighborhood of 5-7k after everything is said and done.

How much lift does it have over stock? Looks higher than it needs to be. Looks like you could remove the spring blocks and likely be happier. What are your plans for something like this? Do you do mud bogging? Or are there some gnarly trails around you where you're not very concerned about the high center of gravity? Thanks for sharing, I want to see more!

Your concerns are the same as mine. I plan on lowering the truck 3" or so but still needs to clear and stuff 39.5s. I will bump it out as well. Here the trails are very very off camber but more times than not have something to lean on. No open trails for us. Plan is for road and trail use. The leaf springs are brand new and most likely soften up and I'll lose some altitude that way. Another concern is the oil pan clearance with the dana 60. The reason for the blocks now is to address pinion angle and perch alignment I am rotating the axle tubes soon to rid all of these issues. I am going to raise the shackles possibly.

How does the 4.2 like the 39.5 tires with 5.38 gears?
What t case are you running?

Do you have a pic of the oil pan clearance? Would pushing the axle more forward help? I have a 79 ford d60 so the diff is not offset as far.
What did you use for a steering shaft from the gear box to the factory shaft? Any pics?

I have been wanting to tear apart my 92 gmc truck and build a new family wheeler and set up about identical to this. With 39.5 irocs, 5.38 gears in a 79 ford d60 and 10.25 sterling, gm 52" front springs and 63" rear springs.

He used the stock tcase and has a 241 ready to go in. He build looks a lot like what Steve and mike did.

Theres not a ton of clearance for the oil pan, but if you bump stop it properly you shouldnt have any issues. The 4.2 doesn't really mind the gears and tires.. getting about 13mpg and it had no issue getting around..

I have an NP241 that im waiting on an adapter for to install.

How much compression would you gain with a rear sump pan?

I've always wondered how much it got in the way.

well you dont ever want to put your leaf springs into a negative arch. soo if you bump stop them properly there is nothing to worry about either way.

Negative arch isn't that bad, there's millions of 73-87 Fullsize Chevy's running around with negative arch. Flat packs are best, because you're not fighting against arch for articulation.

It sounds like this truck was built tall enough to not worry about the oil pan. Leaf springs have a reputation of loosing arch when compressed too far. They can, but you can replace or re-arch them also. They are generally not expensive.
