Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

disconnect questions

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

Having just installed my lift 7k ago, I've been paying close attention to my front disconnect. I don't believe there is any noise from up front aside from a little tire noise. Checking the cv shaft, it has a very slight amount of play, very little. Is there supposed to be any amount of play in the cv shaft at all?

Also, from looking at the pictures, it looks like the outer portion of the disconnect can be taken out while leaving the inside half attached to the oil pan. If that is the case, I would imagine it would make this job much easier (only two bearings) with no risk of dealing with the inside half possibly breaking off inside the oil pan.

Taking a trip to Florida in a month. Figured I should be sure about these things first.

Read the whole thing.

Outer and inner can be seperated. Quite a few rebuilds on here using that method.

Awesome, makes pulling it just to check on things not seem like a bad idea.

No, its a very good idea, and while in there, you should regrease the outer bearings at a minimum.
