Tuned '03 PCM in my '02?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

by SmokeyMcBlazer » Sun Jan 18, 2015 9:52 pm

Hey guys,

Hoping to grab a tuned PCM from a GMTNation member and just wanted to know if it would work in my truck. And if so, what would I need to get done? CASE relearn? Security relearn? VIN programmed into the tuned PCM? I thought I read somewhere that the '03 PCM works in an '02 but I could be wrong. Obviously, I'd want it for the tune, so if it can work, I'd want to keep all the tune info and not have to reflash the PCM to GM stock.

So.... Go, or no go??

Thanks.

you'd need to do a CASE and Security relearn, Security relearn you can do yourself just need an hour of your own time and CASE relearn you can get done at the dealer or a mechanic with a high end scan tool, i.e snap on.

You have to get the Vin programmed I believe. That tuned PCM could be tuned for a tuned transmission, different gears... etc

The donor is suppose to be bone stock except for the tuned PCM. Would his rear end gearing have to match mine?

I would suggest that the VIN number isn't as important as the dealer thinks it is. While experimenting with tunes at the dealer after changing my gears, they dropped in a full reprogram in which the VIN did not match my truck. I drove it for two days without any problems, before I got around to rewriting the VIN myself (still not sure why they couldn't do it).

The security relearn might not even take that long. Think I did mine in about 15 minutes. CASE relearn is apparently a problem, I had to call around before finding a dealership that even knew what it was.

My only concern would be what exactly was tuned on it? If it's just a general tune like pcm4less does, then great. However if it has a custom tune, it may have been adjusted specifically for the donor's engine, and won't run the same on yours.

Thanks for the info bro, but I ended up passing on the PCM. I'll just eventually send in my PCM for tuning...

It'll be worth it. Even a generic tune is noticeably better than the stock tune.
