Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

What did you do to your GMT today?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

Got some 1" square tube welded to my tire carrier to hold my Hi- lift. Still got some gussets to add but ran out of wire. :(
My welds are getting better starting to know my welder.

The gusseting may not be needed today, but if you plan to keep it on there, I could see it cracking out over time without them. Better to be safe than sorry. Looks good Robert!

Thanks James, this is really is just in between step. I was going to totally rebuild the tire carrier and try to make it shorter and still lay mostly flat when the tire is down. But instead I decided to spread the effort on some type of swing out which is what I really want. Yea I decided to add the gussets because of side to side action that the hi-lift will have mounted horizontally. Probably would have made more sense to mount the hi-lift vertically.

Painted hood, washed it, swapped in new led reverse lights, put the basket back up top

Kyle, hood looks awesome.

Got the tire gate finished. It's not anywhere near as elegant as Marcs, but it works. We have another pass of bed armor to spray on it tomorrow and it'll get mounted. Also got my Bilstiens and 87s on, much better than the saggy 83s. I'll get pictures up soon.

ran in a mud bog yesterday , I ran it just like I drive it on the street. Tires are definitely not for mud.

66.6' not the worst, I actually forgot to turn off my traction control off (which was a good thing)

I made a second run with TC off and just floored it, they couldn't even measure the run because they didn't start the tape that close to the line... might as well of been running slicks. I will post a video if someone asks.

I should have went there, I only live 20 minutes away, but I didn't know anyone from here was going, I could have ran mine in it.

Been crazy since we've been back from our short stay at TECORE last weekend, so I never got a chance to post pictures. Here is the tire carrier we built. Not fancy or elaborate, but we're weekend fabricators and it works. Still trying to come up with a saftey pin to attach as well, for a 'just in case'. I have a strut I'd like to attach too, but it may be to stiff, just haven't had time to mess with it any further. This made the road trip to Virginia and back without an issue.

Attempted a trail run today, but 9km up the FSR, met a powerline crew stringing cable by heli on a major new cross country line. The heli had got some lines tangled in trees, and dropped them across the road, so we couldn't proceed. This is on a Sunday afternoon, and there's 2 helis, at $1000/hr, and about 10 guys on double pay (golden time!) standing around trying to decide what to do! No wonder our power rates are through the freakin' roof. :-O

When we got back to the highway, and cell reception, I called a buddy, to see if he wanted us to meet him at Harrison Lake, near his place. Turns out he was headed out the door to a pub about 1/2 way between our location and his place, for 1/2 price appies, so we headed there, and joined him for drinks and food for the rest of the afternoon. I guess that's making lemonade out of lemons. ;-)

My buddy Thomas got some good video of the scenic trail and my truck on the way out,so if he gets it up on vimeo, or elsewhere, I'll post a link.

Upgraded the trans cooler, old one wasn't cutting it. Trans crept into the 230s on the way back from TECORE at some spots, which prompted this. I have new radiator hoses and tstat to go on in the coming weeks as well. Also dropped on new hatch struts. I swore I ordered hatch glass struts, but not what I got. Oh well.

Took the TB to the AC shop for recharge. It was done last year, just after I bought it, but wasn't quite cutting it in our record breaking heat wave today. No leaks were found last year, but they put dye in to try and find any again, since my charge was down a bit. Certainly putting out chill now!

Been chasing a Evap code for a few months. Has any one thought of relocating the purge solenoid near the gas tank?
Seems to be in a bad location when going through muddy water etc.
It really nothing special has a filter inside it and was full of mud. Was able clean up, keeping as spare.

Noticed the led bar for the license plate is about dead so I need to slap the bolts with built-in leds on it this afternoon and see how they work out.
