Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

What did you do to your GMT today?

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

I am intrigued by that dash cam. The picture from behind the mirror makes it look like it fits over the OEM mirror, is that right?

EDIT:
NVM, I just looked into them and see that they do. I always figured they took up dash space or whatever and never cared to shop for them. Wife has been in two accidents in the TB and this would have saved us some major headaches of dealing with the insurance company.

i like having it. It's good piece of mind. Only cost me about $100, no mods necessary. Plugs into 12v socket. To recover footage, you can either pull out the memory card, or just unplug the mirror, take it inside, and plug it into your computer and download it. I'll post a video soon to show video quality.

Productive do far. Changed transmission fluid, filter and and transfer case fluids. Both seemed very clean, so I feel good about the internals. I did find that some orileys carry autotrak 2 - even if it takes them 20 minutes to find it in the back.

EXT rotors and loaded calipers came in today. I will at least get the calipers and brakets painted today.

$8.99 I think it was, I don't recall how that compares to the dealer.

It was $11.22 per L at the dealer last year when I did mine.

As some know I have been throwing parts (needed tune up anyway) at my Envoy trying to find the cause of a significant power loss. I have replaced the plugs, coil packs, alternator, and air filter. There was no change. This (in my head anyway) narrowed it down to exhaust or fuel related. Today I dropped the center section of the exhaust pipe and took it for a drive. Huge difference, I have most of the power back, I am chalking up the rest as lack of back pressure by running with just an open manifold. Does that make sense? I am going to do a compression check on the cylinders just to make sure I don't have more serious issues.

On a side note, those running the P4 battery from Sears, watch it closely if you have to put it on a charger. I had it on a charger for a few days, having to hook my Yukon up to the Envoy with jumper cables for the smart charger to see a correct voltage. It was originally trying to charge it as a 6V battery. I started it and ran it for about 30 minutes and heard a whistling coming out of the engine compartment, opened the hood and the battery was swollen and top cap had burst off and it was boiling. I shut the truck down immediately but the damage was already done. I will find out Monday if Sears will warranty it out. After a little bit of research I have found a bit of talk about how they are very sensitive to overcharging.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.

Long time ago I had a Toyota Tercel with a ton of miles that had a loss of power due to a severely plugged cat. On every vehicle since then, I either bore them out or delete them when they are due for a replacement.

Matt,I kinda figured plugged cat from the description too, there shouldn't be enough back pressure to make a big noticeable difference

Clogged cat will definitely kill power. Seems to happen more often on inline motors for whatever reason, at least from what I've run across. 4.0 Jeeps are notoriously bad for it and then manifold cracks when it happens.

Got the rear diff cover and shackles back from powder coating, nice obnoxious green that's hard to photograph.

The paint I was using unfortunately was failing after 6 months.

Got a led light bar installed on the roof. 41-1/2". A no name brand but it has good overall reviews and the light output is really good. I hope to have night pics this weekend. I didn't like the brackets that came with it so I designed and then used my 3D printer at work to print the brackets. They are low profile and fits the bar perfectly to the stock roof rails.

Looks like one of the Amazon bars. Buddy just picked a 30" up for his truck and so far so good, no moisture and appears durable.

I like yours though and those brackets are very nice!

Mind grabbing a front shot, like to see how it looks. I want to do this eventually, but our trails have a ton of low hangers, so I'm afraid I'd just shatter one. I think I'll be stuck trying something hood mounted or grill/bumper mounted.

Also, replaced my 4WD actuator last night with the Dorman replacement unit, original one got weak and wouldn't engage, stuck me in sand last time on the trails.

If you just get the AWD sleeve, you won't have to worry about that :thumright:
