As some know I have been throwing parts (needed tune up anyway) at my Envoy trying to find the cause of a significant power loss. I have replaced the plugs, coil packs, alternator, and air filter. There was no change. This (in my head anyway) narrowed it down to exhaust or fuel related. Today I dropped the center section of the exhaust pipe and took it for a drive. Huge difference, I have most of the power back, I am chalking up the rest as lack of back pressure by running with just an open manifold. Does that make sense? I am going to do a compression check on the cylinders just to make sure I don't have more serious issues.
On a side note, those running the P4 battery from Sears, watch it closely if you have to put it on a charger. I had it on a charger for a few days, having to hook my Yukon up to the Envoy with jumper cables for the smart charger to see a correct voltage. It was originally trying to charge it as a 6V battery. I started it and ran it for about 30 minutes and heard a whistling coming out of the engine compartment, opened the hood and the battery was swollen and top cap had burst off and it was boiling. I shut the truck down immediately but the damage was already done. I will find out Monday if Sears will warranty it out. After a little bit of research I have found a bit of talk about how they are very sensitive to overcharging.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.
