Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Herculiner party!

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

by janesy86 » Wed Jun 22, 2011 10:42 am

Herculiner, because it's cheap and I've read many good things. The duplicolor, not so much. Line X is much more expensinve and is a dealer only procedure.

I would have done/ used U-pol raptor liner (also around $100 so price is not much different), but this was easier for me to do at the time. The raptor liner is spray on (might be able to roll on) and my dad has a compressor I could use but the masking off was a bit more and finding the time to get there and do it is what made me oick the Herculiner. Raptor stuff I hear is top quality and hardens a bit more than Herc and looks more like Line-x.

I think the brand preference may have to do with the fact that it is readily available at most parts suppliers. Plus, Herculiner does have a fairly good reputation.

Yea that too. My stores have the Duplicolor stuff to but I didn't want to test it.

And U-pol raptor I'd have to order and I had this weekend free, and no compressor available, so the Herculiner worked out to be the best option.

I had a bad experience with the Duplicolor stuff on my K5. It flakes, even with good prep. Never again.

Mario, why didn't you wash the whole TB before the Herculiner instead of just the bottom half? :-)

Pfft. All I did was sand off the areas I did and wipe them with alcohol.

LOL, I know that feeling.
I had a Jeep Comanche I was going to paint one time.
I bondo-ed all the dings, sanded everything, removed all the lights and grill, emblems etc.
I was so tired of it and ready to paint I left the front and rear bumpers on and used cardboard to shield the paint off of them. I was just doing a rough camo job any.

Yeaaa i know haha...i ended up postponing it so that i could do something a little more...practical. I sent in my deposits for the skids and and buying a winch and making a tube bumper similar to fish's. It WILL happen, i can promise you that, just not within the next few weeks. Also it was 90's and rediculously sunny here this weekend, wayyy too hot to paint outside or do any form of physical labor.

You can imagine my excitement to get it done, I've got dents that I need to fix, fenders that need re-aligning and a crack in the rear bumper. I want to fix it all so badly but I thought to myself "if I want to go wheeling more often, armor is better than paint" I got a big enough compressor for painting, just need the paint and i have it all ready. I also need a weekend that isn't scorching hot...
