Over torque can cause a misfire?

How so? Teach me!

Overtorquing without using a spark plug socket can...

Otherwise, it was just a bad plug, if you were using a spark plug socket with the rubber doughnut inside it...

i was using a plug socket with rubber holder in side. the #8 plug is a bitch to. when i went to tq down on it and the angle i was at with my tq wrench, i loaded the end of the plug to mush and cracked the porcelain. then it started to arc. it took a week for this to cause a misfire that the computer picked up as a cel.

Oh, so it's really a matter of bending the insulator and fracturing it, not so much over-torque.
