Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

So I've been thinking...

Trailblazer and Envoy related, but not off-road related...

All in all, mileage is relative to the value the vehicle has to you, especially concerning usability. If you can get more use out of a truck, then by all means, it is the more sensible option.

You still need to compare EPA ratings to EPA ratings... They're still for a little bit higher speeds, and a few more stoplights, but driving as easily as you can for the current EPA course... You can't compare even your stock mileage to even the "more realistic" EPA mileage on another vehicle...

So why would you expect a vehicle with the same drivetrain, more frontal area, taller and wider tires (31"), and 600# more weight to get a bunch better mileage? I can see mapping doing a little bit, and the BS timing retard on the TB for the torque management (as seen in the 5.3L TB mileage), but it's nothing a tune couldn't even out...

'08 5.3L 4x4 TB - 13/19
'08 5.3L 4x4 Silverado - 14/19

Still better than the 10MPG highway my friend claims that his Escalade EXT was gettting.
This is an aggressive post. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate a post of this quality and depth.

Yes, but EPA went back and adjusted the old ratings. You can look up adjusted "New MPG" ratings in order to compare an old vehicle directly with a new one.

That doesn't even seem close. I do about 50/50 city/highway driving during my commute to work every day, and I average 19. If I stay on the highway with no major headwind or pass climbs, it does 21. I've never driven it in town only to really get an accurate measurement, but I'm guessing no less than 16.

Yeah, the 19 is what I get at 75mph, and I've only ever gotten 13 towing a car trailer... Lowest we've ever gotten on a tank was 14mpg in the winter, when it was sitting outside, and no highway...

I've been calculating my mileage based on trip odometer and fuelling up. I was averaging 14-15mpg with about 50/50 driving. I've got a rather heavy foot at times.

Now I have a ScanGauge and I'm trying to maximize my MPG. Since getting it set up, it says I've averaged 16+ with 50/50 driving the last few trips. I'm trying to break 17! Its like a game!

Did you adjust your vehicle speed due to your larger than stock tires?

If so, that will make your mileage adjust by the same %age (prob 9% or so). So, you're really getting the samemileage, but Scangauge is just reporting the correct adjusted mileage.

Speed on SG has been adjusted for larger tires... I really am just driving a little differently. Its not much of an increase, but its something.
