Ok so me and The Roadie worked on making a gas tank skid plate this weekend. I took his idea and went a few levels up. The lower plate is 3/16" steel and the up-rights and side supports are 1/4" steel. Having the side supports allows for little to no deflection in the plate. The strap that runs side to side ties the frame back together and offers more support for the plate. Under the muffler it is double plated to get strength and rigidity coming to a thickness of 1/2".The main plate has two 1" drain holes up front to allow larger debris to evacuate and the rear has two 5/8" holes for water. Both sets of holes are behind the cross braces to protect from intrusion. Pictures will be up as soon asap. Thanks again from NEILAGE INC.

Darn it. I thought Neil was BUSY this weekend. Now I know why women HATE to share their favorite babysitter's number. Oh, wait. YOU answered Neil's ad, and I stole some of his time from YOU. Ooopsie. Carry on.

Neil... do you work with aluminum too?

My two worries are the shipping cost, and the weight.

I'd be 10x happier keeping all of my armor aluminum. Plus, for us here in the northeast, we won't have to worry about rusting issues.

Can you clarify what you mean by "rusting issues". Your talking about aluminum correct?

That's why I want aluminum vs. steel.

So, this was an attempt at humor? :poke: :raspberry:

I meant:

With an aluminum plate, the shipping cost and weight will be a benefit.

Plus, for us here in the northeast, we won't have to worry about rusting issues because otherwise it's a big problem here.

I figured out what you meant. Just my inflection was out of place.

I will be interested in the end cost of the aluminum over the steel, since you asked the question.

Anxious to see what NEILAGE INC. comes up with. Neat bunch of fabricators in this group.

I'll be looking into this eventually, and I also think I'd rather have aluminum as well. But I might also look into making my own over the winter when I get some free time in my buddies shop.. if not I'll be hitting you up early spring before the wheelin' season starts back up again. :flex dirty:

Thanks Guys and I will see what my price is on the aluminum. The only problem with the aluminum for the gas tank skid is we will have to use thicker material. The whole point of this is to save the gas tank in case of an impact. Thanks again Neil.

Sorry guys I have been swamped. I have not gotten a price on the aluminum yet. As for the chromoly, you only need cold rolled which is what I used for The Roadie. Also for the corrosion issue I will offer clear coating or I can get a price on clear powder coating. Thanks again Neil.

thanx for the updates! ill be wathcing the thread for when you post an aluminum price. I have the ext model with the 6cyl engine, so weight is a big issue to me until i either change my gearing, or get a 5.3 put in
