Trail Gear shortened Sliders

by Jon A » Sun Nov 28, 2010 1:13 am

These are the 78" version of these: http://www.trail-gear.com/rock-sliders . I shortened them to 76" by chopping an inch out of each end. It's snug, but they fit with 33's with my wheels. If you have wheels spaced farther out (with spacers etc) or larger tires you may need to cut more off. I apologize for some of these photos being really lousy, I was having some obvious camera issues....

Here you see their stock length:

Chop off the end, chop off another inch:

Weld the end back on:

After cutting the legs all to the correct length (individually fitting them), tack them into place with the slider in position. I used 1/2" tubes to space the main bar from the rocker panel when tacking:

Welding it all together and painting:

Naturally this required some trimming of the trim panel but it keeps them tucked up nicely:

Very little deflection while holding up one sided of the vehicle:

This non-slip tape from Home Depot works great:

Looks great!

I also went with the 78" sliders, but am going a bit of a different route on the install. I am just waiting to hear from Mike when he is ready for the install on the truck. Details will be posted up then. :coffee:

I am looking in to getting these, possibly the pre-welded set, they have two listed for the 78" •Rock Sliders, 78" 1995-2004 X-Cab, Raw Pair, 120011-1-K, $219 •Rock Sliders, 78" 2005-2007 X-Cab, Raw Pair, 120022-1-K, $282. Model will not matter, I can just get the cheaper set correct? The non-welded ones are •78" 88-04 Xtra-Cab, Pair, 120003-1-K, $189
I dont know how to weld and would have to pay some one to do it, I think it would be a lot cheaper the $20 to get some one to weld them together for me.

The legs will be welded on and spaced/angled for the indicated application. You may have fitment issues trying to put them on the TB.

Personally I'd find a buddy with a welder, or buy a cheap one and start learning (your welder will pay itself off many times over).
