Yea it's the xrc 8 after reading allot of reviews it seems a good winch and works after being in water, but I'm just nervous that a 8k 5.5 hp won't cut it, any ideas?

snatch blocks and read up on winching techniques. Watch some online dos and donts and go out and practice with it before you are stranded and need it.

Mine is still running strong. I have atleast 4 rescues with it so far. I'd just recommend going with synthetic rope vs cable, such a difference when you are actually using the thing!

My buddies got one and he's had it a while now and running strong. When I do get my own it'll most likely be the XRC 8k w/ synthetic rope like Teebes has and mentioned. And can get for a decent price as well.

There are some XRC models that come with rope, or you can add it on. Look at masterpull, they have a rep on Expo that is usually running deals...

That's right. Look for the "comp editions" that already come with synthetic and proper fairlead. I'm looking at the xrc10 comp myself.

Mike, you may want to look over the ORTB recovery article...

Specifically the static recovery page.

that is pretty good. I have found 300 shipped on the net. I should have spent the 259 at the jamboree for one, but i talked myself out of it.

If you're worried, buy snatch blocks. You should have some on hand anyway for off angle pulls.

She's sexy now lol, just don't know how to make the holes for the fair lead the holes need to be big lol and i don't have a drill bit that will do it :( needless to say it would kill my drill since it's 1/4" thick steel :(( any ideas I thought I could use the highest heat with slow slow wire speed to almost act like a plasma but my welder isn't strong enough :( any ideas ? I wish they put the holes in at the factory on the bumper :(((((

Unless your drill is a total POS, 1/4" steel shouldn't be a big problem. Start with a smaller pilot hole and use progressively larger bits to open the holes up.

Why on earth would 1/4" mild steel kill your drill?? Somebody better tell my drill it's been dead for YEARS!! OMG ZOMBIE DRILL!!

Really, mark your holes, dimple the hole with a punch and hamer, and drill it with a 3/16" drill bit... then go larger to whatever size you need... Don't push really hard, and don't go full speed on the larger bits... High School shop class, ya'll...

:Iagree: what kind of drill do you have that can't handle 1/4" steel??
