P0301 engine code... cleared, and hasn't come back

Something not working right?

by Philberto » Mon Sep 14, 2009 10:16 pm

Hey,

So the TB pulled a P0301 code on me the other day, took it to my work, hooked up a scan tool, cleared it, and it hasn't shown up again in 3 days... you think a fluke? For reference, P0301 was cylinder #1 misfire. Just want to know if I should open up the cover and look at the spark plug or just wait and see if it happens again.

My mechanic said if it shows up three times its a concern.

Try some techron. That should clear it up!

Wait to see if it happens again. If so, and it is the same coil, swap coil pack #1 with another pack, ie #2, 3, etc... reset the codes and see what code comes after. If the misfire stays on #1, check the spark plugs. If it follows the coil pack, chances are, that is your culprit. How many miles do you have? Original plugs or have they been replaced? If so, with which plugs?

Vehicle has 67k miles, purchased with 60k on the clock... Unknown if plugs were changed and if so, what plugs they are. I'll just wait and see if it comes back... so far, 4 days and it's not back.

Have you ever noticed a rough idle when sitting at a light? I did, and it threw the code. Injector cleaner is a cheap $4 option.

No, not really. Come to think of, it idles smoother than any car I've ever owned. Then again, it's the first car I've owned with under 100k on the odometer.

I thought about it, but usually I use Marvel Mystery Oil sucked into the intake manifold through a vacuum line. Then again, I haven't had that problem since that day, so I blame the Los Angeles air.
