2003 trailblazer transmission questions

Something not working right?

11 bolts on the bell housing, three bolts on the tourque converter

There is a round access hole that allows you to see and get to the torque converter bolts. This is a partner required exercise, someone needs to turn the flywheel while you watch for the bolts to show up in that access hole. Turn clockwise when looking at the front of the truck. No, the exhaust doesn't have to come out. Loosen the engine mount nuts and that will allow the whole assembly to tilt back and down giving access to the top bolts on the trans.

Good luck, if you need quick answers feel free to PM or text me.

Okay. Trans is out. I wanted to be sure that it was the trans and it is in fact the pump. I took the pump apart and it has grenaded on the inside. Now I know for sure it is the transmission. With the pump going out, what else may have gotten damaged? I'm wondering if I could just replace the pump or would it need to be rebuilt? If it needs a rebuild, then I guess I will be pulling a trans from a salvage yard and just replace the whole trans.

I would imagine someof those pump piece got sent through the trans. So maybe you can replace it and be fine, maybe you replace it and something else fails in 10,000 miles because of the shrapnel damage.

No fluid flow would result in a lot of friction and heat. How would you know that the salvage trans you pull is in good usable condition? For piece of mind I would go with a rebuilt. Just my .02¢

I agree, if you tote a trans in somewhere, you should be able to get it done for under 800, not a lot more than a junkyard unit anyway.
