Front bumper cover replacement

Something not working right?

by jrivs4x4tb » Wed Jan 06, 2016 3:11 am

So a while back I partially ripped my bumper cover off on a tree. I decided to throw the entire thing away (dumb move). Anyways, I want to buy a new one but I am not sure of what else I will need, brackets? Bolts? Screws etc. The front has nothing left of the original bumper cover or anything that held it on and I want to make sure I order everything.
Thanks

You should need is the two bolts that go on the top of the cover near either corners of the radiator (not in diagram), and all of those weird plastic pin retainer thingys (2&3). I don't remember how many there are exactly. (7 maybe?)
Also, there is a plastic spacer bar that is normally glued to the inside of the bumper cover (6). It rests on top of the metal bumper reinforcement (7) when the cover is installed. I'm not sure if this would be included with your bumper cover when purchased or not. Bottom spoiler (10) should come with a new cover, but check to be sure. And then you have the license plate mount (12) which is optional and takes 4 plastic retainer pins (13).

Mason probably gave you the most inclusive advice you're liable to get round here, I don't think we've ever had someone put the cover back on before! LOL

IMHO for the price your gonna pay for the cover, paint and everything else you might as well get a bumper kit from MDB.

Go on carid.com put in your make model and year. Go all the way down to replacement bumpers and there should be three brands to buy from. I bought mine from them. You can buy an ls, lt, or ss front bumper. They all have the same mounting points. Like mason said, two bolts on the top one push clip in the middle. Theres a support bar on either bottom corner, check to see if they're okay, if not, its not a big deal.. They don't do much. Then there will be I think 5 or 6 push clips on the bottom of the bumper to hold it in maybe 7 haha Then like mason said again, theres a like a clip spacer and theres actually a place to clip it in on the side of the bumper support. The kits from carid had everything I needed to put my bumper on. It cost me a good amount though I think around $700.... But I trust them more than ordering off eBay... I also got the highest quality one and the lt bumper, which is probably more than the ls bumper cover. Let me know if you need any help! I've taken my front bumper off a million times lol..

Thanks for all the help guys, seems like too much crap for a useless piece of plastic.
Haven't been on here in a while, anyone know of any retailers that sell a nice steel bumper? I don't have time to do the self weld kit.

There's has to be a fab shop or a 4x4 shop were you live that can weld it up for you.
