SOLVED! - Clunking noise from ?front?

Something not working right?

by onebigburb » Thu Jul 09, 2015 10:15 pm

Okay so my sas parts aren't here yet so I decided to put tb back on the road. So i'm back to the first problem that kind of started this whole sas. This started months ago. After up tooling around in woods one night on drive home I noticed clunking in front end. Over time it got louder (like weeks or months of time). I have tried to find source and can not locate it. Jacked up inspected found no play in wheel bearings. I noticed front diff. was toast so I have pulled cv shafts, left stubs in to hold wheel bearing assembly together. Pulled front drive line. Thought it was on passenger side so changed wheel bearing. Removed sway bar. Nothing has changed the noise is still there. Checked rear driveline for u-joint play. Yanked t-case around to see if it had bad mount. The noise is straight forward clunk under acceleration it gets louder. Feels like its under front end somewhere. almost like having flat but has a definite metal solid feel. Any thoughts?

can you mount a gopro under there ?

I'm not familiar with your rig but if it has struts look at the top strut plate

I have been thinking about buying go pro for this/these scenario's for a while. yes factory suspension still. It sounds like rotational mass. How would the strut plate move to make that sound? new to the strut scene.

Upper ball joints tend to clunk when they are bad, have you checked them?

Can you describe the clunk a little better? Is it on bumps or dips or when you're topping out or every time the tire spins? That can at least put us in the right location of the rig.

Soooo wierd cause it came threw passenger floor board clear as day. I guess mental note to guys just because it appears one way doesn't mean thats it. Thanks guys
