Something not working right?

The engine races and the transmission does not shift properly, when starting from stop. Does this off and on.

Think we need a little more info than this like mileage, maintenance history. You stock or lifted with bigger tires ect.

Does it do it in all gears? all throttle positions?

Are you willing to attempt a shift kit install? Its possible that it could temporarily fix your issues, and prolong the life of the transmission, but its a lot of work and not guaranteed to fix it.

Guys I am new to the site please be patient with me. I bought the vehicle last week and it has 126,000 miles every thing is stock. I have read that it could be some type of solenoid switch, other than this it runs and drives well. All maintenance is up to date per a car fax. I will be using it as a daily driver and will be towing a small trailer and boat at times. May do some off road driving as well. Thanks in advance for any help or information on this problem or a a rebuild if needed.

You need to explain your problem better Danny. Your explanation could be any number of things. If you are serious about finding a solution, you need to be very detailed.

Thanks, the best I can tell you is that it seems to jump out of gear and the engine will race up. I can shift to neutral and back to drive and it will start to shift ok .this does not happen each time I start off.

Danny I am not sure I'd trust the car fax maintenance history. Did you buy it from a dealer? If so bring it back and tell them there is a issue with the tranny. Any trustworthy dealer with work with you. I wouldn't touch it just yet.

When it jumps out of gear and the engine races, does it ever go back into gear on its own? Does the transmission re-engage if you let the engine get back down to idle?

It sounds like its falling into a false neutral, but without more to go on, I can't say much else.
