Basic Transmission Maintenance Thread

Something not working right?

by Blazintrails03 » Sun Sep 29, 2013 5:20 pm

When I put up a thread about wether or not I should change my fluid or filter some stuff was advised but I didn't listen to all of it. So I had been thinking about writing up a basic thread for stuff like pan drop and filter change to shift kits since I need to drop the pan again and this time I can take appropriate pics and such. Regulators full rebuild thread got me thinking about this. viewtopic.php?f=26&t=4656

I want to compile a list of parts, part numers, and info to help out others in the future. I know mikekey and v7jguy just did great write ups on shift kits and trans work so when I get home from work I will probably start to compile parts numbers and maybe message them for info I'm having trouble finding.

By the end of me dropping me pan again I hope to be able to replace this intro with a good list of parts and numbers to recommened maintenance and extra stuff that most of the people on here are capable of doing on their own.

Hey Bobby, have you been able to get any further with this? It sounds like a great idea - so I'm looking forward to seeing what you've done so far. We can even create a new article on the www-side of the site if we end up with enough information.

If you need help, let us know.

Yeah I've been slacking a tad on this. I have some parts and numbers compiled and even contacted mikekey who directed me to another thread that opened up a bunch of info. Just haven't had the time to get under my tb and pull the pan for work and pictures. I'm working on it though.

I'm posting this here cause in a search I came across it and COMPLETELY forgot that I had started this thread. This weekend I'm gonna install my B&M trans cooler probably with a Hayden line fitting kit. Is the part number for the Hayden piece 397? That's the only one I saw when I searched amazon.

Also while I have the lines apart I'm thinking of doing an at home trans flush I've heard of. Simply pop the lines apart and run the return back to the trans to a bucket full of new fluid. Run the line from the rad to an empty bucket and turn the key on. It pulls new fluid from the bucket through the lines, converter, trans, etc and all the old fluid out to the empty bucket. Same thing as a flush at an auto shop without the added cost. Anyone ever tried this?

Yea that is what I am using and has been in service since April 11, 2014 with no issues. See my build. To be honest I did not look to much pass this one since it said "GM 1996 and later snap-in style lines" and was only $10, took a chance. I am thinking you should be fine. Hayden Automotive 397 Transmission Line Fitting Kit

Thank you sir. I figured I was correct cause it looked the same but looks and pictures aren't the best to go off of. And then when I clicked your link to make sure it was the right one on my computer it showed the "this item fits your vehicle" tag. Must have missed that on my phone.
