Something not working right?

by mike721 » Wed Oct 14, 2009 6:00 am

got some new sway bar end links and it orignally fixed the popping sound that i was having. after a few weeks it came back and i torqued everything down for a second time and it went away. just a few days ago i drove to seattle and now its popping worse then ever. it sounds like most of it is just the driver side, i can feel it at my feet. any ideas guys im at a lose.

Is this problem with the SMaxx endlinks?

If so, you may want to contact them to see if they can give you a recommendation on how to fix it.

Are your mounting holes elongated? That would tend to enable movement that could loosen up the nuts. Only increased torque can compensate for bad holes, but too much torque has its own risks. If they're elongated from your previous links getting loose, you might have to drill them out round and sleeve the threaded shaft to stop the movement.

Loctite is also recommended.

And please give us all the details in the first post - I personally didn't remember what end links you're running.

:Iagree: I have these installed with no problems. Did you just wrench tighten them or truly torque them. I used my torque wrench down to 65ft/lbs and have experienced no problems in the months I have had them installed.

sorry guys i did this while i was workin the mid shift. they are the smaxx links and i did actually use a torque wrench but the popping is still there. i cant figure it out. i might have to try and call them like you guys were sayin. i also read that if my sway bar itself is off just even a little that it would cause this too? they were saying that the links need to have the same angle. they look the same to me but i dont know. is it possible that i could have a different problem all together? it does only pop in the up or down motion mostly on the driver side. its got to be a solid bump to get the others to pop with it.

so i talked to smaxx about the problem and they said that they dont think its the links that it might be my tie rods and that it might be loose causing my a-arms to shift. he was saying that just a fraction of a shift would cause the pop. caused by lifting it. same problem they had during testing. i dont know what u guys think worth a shot.

I don't think it's the tie-rods... I have a loose one... no popping.

Maybe check your swaybar bushings?

Does it pop if you rock the vehicle side to side?

no at least i havent heard it ever pop side to side just up and down or when i hit a nice pot hole. someone said something to me about the bushings too im going to check those tomorrow when i get off work. i still need an alignment too and that was what smaxx was sayin too. he was sayin that it might even fix it with that. the reason y he thought it was the tie rod was cuz i can feel something at my feet while driving almost rattleing against the floor board. i dont know im going to take a look after work
