Traction control brakes left front tire on moderate turns

Something not working right?

by Philberto » Mon Sep 21, 2009 3:34 pm

Hey everybody,

As most of you know, I'm now running the LiftMeister lift, 1.3" spacers, and 265/75/16 tires... I noticed a few days ago that when I turn to get onto the freeway on this ramp near my house, the left front tire seems to brake intermittently, accompanied by a flashing traction control light. I am getting an alignment today, so this may be a moot point if that's the fix, but is it possible for the difference in tire size to be affecting the traction control? I haven't yet sent the PCM in to PCM4Less to get it reprogrammed, but prepaid during their labor day sale.

Thanks in advance for the help,

-Phil :fro:

As long as all your tires are the same size, you shouldn't have a problem with traction control. Are you taking the corner at a normal speed? or does this happen when you are pushing it to the limit? If you're really pushing it, it may apply braking in order to keep you from over-steering.

I'm taking the corner at a "spirited" speed, but definitely nowhere near the limit... when it happens, it almost sounds like the tire is hitting something in the well, but I've checked multiple times, and there's no sign of that. I'm hoping it's just bad alignment that presents itself in turns.

Pull the ABS/traction control fuse to prove it. AFAIK, a PCM tune won't fix the traction control settings if they're in the ABS control module.

This may seem like a stupid question... but I have to ask.... Are you in 2HI, A4WD, 4HI, or 4LO?

4lo....

:raspberry:

No, actually 2hi. I got the alignment, and it's still did it when I got on the freeway to test it out (no trac light this time though), but I did notice there is a small rubbing spot on the front liner, so I'll try trimming that away and we'll see where we end up after that... since there was no light, I'm wondering if the tire didn't contact the wheel well and trigger the traction control...
