CBRguy wrote:Thanks. It was tighter under there than I had hoped. But I managed to fit all the relays under the console. The bottom two are already pre run and terminated for when I get the rest of the lights and the basket. All I will have to do is connect the power to the switches and relays.

I just saw this. Great minds must think alike! I have 5 running horizontally in the same place. Not all of mine do something at the moment but I put them in when I did my OBA.

Looks good!

:need pics:

How did you fit 5? I was going to do 5 until I started measuring between the supports molded in on the bottom side. I couldn't make it work without cutting out the front support. I had to trim it a bit with the dremmel to fit 4. Thats sweet that you made it work with 5.

May be smaller switches or they are closer together. I like the look, but beings my co-pilot likes to lay in that area, this wouldn't work as a functional location for me.

I have 3 of the switches out right now... I assure you they all fit though. :) I also had to notch one of the supports underneath. Sorry for the incomplete picture.

Maybe this will make up for it?

Conrad, you have a great build thread going. I noticed in your build thread it appears you chopped off your resonator and just stuck the factory tip back on making it several inches shorter. Does it concern you that the exhaust fumes will cause premature rust? Exhaust leaks are a major contributor to premature rust at least in older vehicles, I would think shortening the exhaust that much wouldn't be good.

Donny - I have been thinking of something similar for the back bumper. That looks good, I hope it works out for what you have planned.

It's a work in progress. I wanted to have it done by the wheeling trip next weekend. Sine I've had Camaro on the brain I hadn't even started on it until this last weekend.

1.5" OD Tube? Strong enough you think?

Looking forward to seeing the completed version. Swing outs rock! :fro:

The "base" welded to the frame and stabilized on top as well.

If I had it to do again, I'd have used square tube I think. Easier to work with. Everything so far is rock solid except for my hinge, which has some movement in it. :wallbash: It's functional right now, and I won't have much more time to work on it, so it will be in "work in progress" mode for the coming weekend. Open tube ends and non-ground welds will be plentiful.

I also had some slag drop and burn through my shoe (and into my foot). Many obscenities poured forth as I hopped around on one foot while ripping off my shoe. I will not post pictures of the results of that...

Rust in the exhaust? Or just rust in general?

My expectation would be the floorpan in the rear near the bumper, and the bumper itself.
If you think about where those exhaust fumes will collect is where I would expect rust.

Nah, I'm not to worried about it. When I was HS I had a turned down exhaust dumping right below the drivers seat in my pickup... This was in Guam where rust was already a problem.

I get off my meds and do shit like install lockers and plan out IFS diff drops. One could argue that a bat shit crazy Donny is good for the off road TB community.

I backed into a tree with the other carrier and tweaked it a bit. It works fine but the tire doesn't quite center up... you could probably bend it back. I pulled some of the hardware off of it to use on the new swing out.

I was going to just cut it up for randomness, but if you're interested you can have it for scrap value (20 bucks?).

Donny,

Thank you for posting that pic of your swing out setup, definitely gave me some ideas for my eventual spare tire mount. Playing with the idea to do something similar except incorporating a rear bumper guard.

Fish I tried that direction. My switches hung out about 1/16"-1/8" over the edge of the console. I was afraid I would catch it with my pant leg and rip stuff off. I like that better than mine though.

Your rear tire carrier is freakin sweet. I have been trying to figure out how to do mine to avoid the hitch mount type, yet keep the stock bumper cover. I know my welding/metal fab/ tool access limits and I can't do the full replacement steel bumper at this point.

Piece of advice... don't wheel with it until you're done. I had a couple spots I hadn't welded up completely and they promptly broke. The carrier came home in the bed of my buddy's pickup.

Cranked that welder up when I got some and burned the shit out of those spots.

Was a recent article in one of the off-road mags where they added a rear carrier to the back of a 4-runner being build up. They put it through the factory bumper.

I didn't notice what brand or if they just went straight to the frame as it wasn't that detailed, i'll do some digging and find which mag it was out of for a reference.

ConradM wrote:More visual updates for my TB... I found out about this stuff called PlastiDip which is basically spray on rubber. Requires no prep aside from cleaning and you can peel it off... I hate chrome so I sprayed the only bit of chrome I had left.

Going to use this stuff for the wheels too. :excited:

Looks good man, but I worry about it being able to stick to wheels... especially since you said it can peel off. There are massive centrifugal forces on a wheel... you don't want the plastidip to just fly off. Maybe test it somewhere first?
