This might be dumb but I don't know much about transmissions... Will a 2wd 4l60E tranny accept a tcase?

Or you can swap the output shaft in the trans. (my trans guy does the swap for $500 and includes all parts)

If you have a fresh trans, it may be worth the swap, but with high mileage, a junkyard trans would be the way to go.

Makes sense... but it will probably be an issue with our short wheel base

Ugh...

I can't afford it yet... If I could figure out something with a D44/8.6 I have it would be closer. But I have too much money in my current setup.

So rock the 44...

The 44 I originally built for the wifes truck was a 77 f250 housing (leaf perches) with chevy knuckles out. Finished width I think was around 66 or 67" wide.

f150 axle, radius arms, build a trac bar, crossover steering, 231 case, xj front d-line....etc...

just swap to chevy flat top knuckles, and all chevy outers and you should be good.

How wide is the TB rear?

Damn wide for a mid size actually.... at least 62" IIRC. Maybe closer to full width.

I'd most likely cheap out and mod the current front driveline so I can use the 226. Then run the 226 until it exploded.

I'd need 6 lug axles too, not swapping wheels/tires anymore if I can help it.

Also have to see I can find something with a pumpkin that's over far enough to clear the oil pan.

The TB is seeing heavy DD use right now, and all my tools are still at my old place... and I'm broke because it cost a small fortune to move into the new place... and... and... and...

Sigh, excuses... I'll just keep wheelin what I got until it breaks.

If you lift enough you should be ok on oil pan, with radius arms and track bar. You may even be able to use the stock struts.

The 77-79 hp f150 front axle or the 77-79 f250 axle are the only ones i would try to use.

80's Waggy will be narrower, but, low pinion, and same diff offset.

With spacers on the rear ill bet its getting closer to the width of a full width front.

I need a new DD. If/when I get one, I would much rather put the money into SAS than to keep on replacing broken parts and upgrading my current setup.

I measured my 8" rear last week. 66" wms to wms with 1.5" wheel spacers... So after heavy calculations I came up with a stock width of 63". I would love to keep my 8" and have a d44 front to keep price down, but I cant get past the idea of having the front axle stronger than the rear, plus I'd want to go coils as front leafs and rear 4 link just seems... backwards.
Of course I also want to go one tons on the xj next summer...ugh lol

I don't think the rear link system allows the tb to be lifted enough to match a sas front. So the rear will need redone as well as the front. Hence the 2 sas rigs on here are leafs all around.

Seems like it would just be longer control arms (probably moving the front CA mounts further towards the front of the truck for a better angle) and taller coils (possibly tahoe lift coils?) and a longer panhard bar, or mounts to drop the panhard...
At this point though I guess that is redesigning the rear hah :poke:

I have a ton of movement in the rear with the rod ended control arms... I think putting a rod end on one/both sides of the panhard bar would make things work out fine. Then it's just brake line/bumpstop (already done on mine) mods and longer shocks..

A radius arm/stock coil bucket setup seems like a good way to go if it's possible. Revert to softer springs and use an out-of-assembly spacer to get your resting height.

I wish there was a way to keep the R&P steering. Less money and for the bad rap it gets, I have less trouble with my steering than anyone I know with a steering box.
