You'd have to re-shim anyway... Just buy the ring/carrier/pinion from him, then have a shop put your ring on the G80 carrier and install it in your rear end (where your pinion is already located)...

If you want to switch to 3.73, just get a used front diff out of a wrecked TB for $400, and use the 3.73 gears with the G80 carrier...

If you don't want to change the front out, just put your stock gears on the G80 carrier, and throw the 3.73 gears in the corner of the garage...

Actually, even if you already have 3.73 gears, you'd probably be better off putting your gears on the G80 carrier, because they may not need re-shimmed, as the G80 carriers seem to be pretty consistant with each other and the open, non-G80 carriers... My uncle purchased a G80 carrier for a used 99+ 1/2-ton Chevy, put his gears on it, and put it back together with the stock shims that came in his diff (just on a lark), and the gears meshed prefectly, like they did with the old open carrier (yes, he did the marking spray), and he didn't have to re-shim... Said he'd heard several people say that they didn't have to reshim much or at all when they did this mod... I'm not saying they'll all be like this, but I can't imagine GM shims all of their differentials at the factory... I think they have the process down to a point that the same shims work for everything (of a given ratio) that comes off the line...

For anybody looking at this you can just take off the 3.73s that are on this G80 and put on your gears that you already have installed on your stock TB, these just have gears that came with the G80 when I purchased this a while back.

i am actualy very interested in changing to 3.73, because my 3.42 make me feel bogged down.

but i need to look into what the cost is to convert the front.

Wait up, Brendan. Your wiener dog takes the 8.6" ring gear and a different G80. Steve's got the 8.0" set.

We'll see if the new year brings me any better luck with my finances. If so, I may take you up on the offer, run my gears in the g80 for now, and then swap to 3.73 in the front and rear at some point. How much does the g80 weigh, would you say?

I would have to say it weighs about 20-25 lbs give or take a little bit more. IIRC when i got it the weight was 26 lbs as the box said but yeah just let me know if you want it it's up for first come first serve.
