Ordered my Bilstein HD's and wheel spacers today! Need to get ahold of Mark to order my lift! is there a way he prefers to be contacted?

Unfortunatly I leave for Wyoming on monday, and won't be back for a month, so the parts will be here waiting for me when I get back!!! :excited:

Can't wait to get it on, also I need to go tire shopping! looking for a 285/70R-17 M/T! So by mid-March I should be :flex dirty:

PM or email. His contact details are posted in his signature and threads. He's got a new day job in Florida with LOTS of overtime, so Mrs. Markmc can ship the kit.

I also picked up some shackle mounting brackets from the local 4x4 shop, I was just wondering if it would be safe to bolt them to the steel bumper? If so I plan on doing that then cutting a hole through the bumper cover to give me some nice front recovery points!

I don't really know how strong that metal bumper is, but I would try to fab something up to have them bolt directly to the frame.... Thats just my 2 cents though

The factory steel bumper.

Definitely mount them to the frame... that factory steel bumper is liable to rip right off if you try any recovery with it.

Sounds good, looks like I need to go crawl around and figure out how I'll mount them then!

Tip: The steel bumper mounts to the frame with 2 massive bolts that run through the frame rails... I'd look at a bracket utilizing these bolts, or maybe a slightly longer bolt, and have it come out a little in front of the steel bumper.

Have you looked at what Roadie and Teebes have done? Unless I'm wrong, they use their receiver hitch for extraction even if their rear bumpers are removed.

(If Roadie actually spent any time at this site instead of worry about being #1 on the OS I'm sure he'd explain it to you, and us I'm sure. He's very well meaning that way.)

Wouldn't you be better off having at least one on the front of your truck? Or do you already? :coffee:

Thats actually what these are for is the front. I already have the reciever mount in the rear. I just dont like the factory tow hooks as they are open. I would love to get one or two D-rings up there!

Your best bet with a stock front bumper is to use the stock tow hooks... just make sure you rig it up to both hooks using a shorter strap. We tugged the crap out of Bob's old TB using this setup without a problem.

This is a very small picture of that method from before I was lifted:

This picture gives you a glimpse at the front end without the flimsy stock bumper:

I thought about that also, just buying a shorter strap to hook to both! Ill just do that until I can spring for a custom bumper!

 Cruel...... :finger:

I do indeed use a 2" shackle mount in my rear receiver. The winch is usually in the front receiver, but the bumper has two d-rings whose stress goes straight to the frame rails. I would definitely stay away from the bumper reinforcing sheet metal bar, and even touching the round tube that goes between the frame rails is a risky place because that's where the front air bag sensors are. Plenty of predrilled holes in the frame rails to mount things to.

Just sent my payment off to Bartonmd for my skid plate :woot:
Now I got a lot of research to do on what tires I will get. A lot of guys down here swear by the buckshots, but I really like those Cooper Discoverer STT, or the BFG KM2. Ugh decisions, decisions! Good thing I have a month to read reviews and decide!

I was under the impression that Barton did not have any more skid plates. Are you getting the steel or aluminum one?
