Pre-mature cv boot tears

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

Haha. Only reason I'm using a torque wrench is so I can rule out possibilities for why my vehicle is shaking

Nah, just tighten that shit up, ain't nobody using torque wrenches. I usually use a lil spit on the threads too, it's like free loctite. There's no way loose or overly tight nuts and bolts can cause any problems.

Lol that's funny. I just won't worry about it then

I wont put my tires or adapters on my truck without a torque wrench. Too simple to do it right. Most other stuff I dont worry about actual torque but I like my smooth safe ride.

Wheels I'm not worried about, but I'm sure that my spacers are over torqued so I'm still doing that

I've got a set of spindles in the shed with adapters/spacers that won't come off, the nut just spins forever, not sure why it kept happening. I'll figure it out eventually. Maybe they had dirt mixed in with spit on the threads, that's like red loctite I hear.

Ah, yeah, the ole blue wrench, probably, be a shame to waste perfectly good hub bearings and adapters though!

Since I've installed the lift on my truck (Marks 3 inch with 88s) I too seem to have fallen victim to the torn CV boot problem. I only got maybe 250-300 miles on the stock axles before the boots pulled off the tripot. I figured hey, I'll swap in new axles while I'm in there so I replaced both sides with cardones. At 100 bucks for the pair I figured why not. They've been in several weeks, no wheeling involved, just back and forth to work. Then yesterday I drove up to the K Trail on Oklahoma for a little recon for a planned wheeling trip. As has become my habit, I checked both sides when I stopped to get gas and sure enough, both sides have torn. Got home and started reading on the problem and ran across the thread by v7guy where he replaced the boots with Dorman 614-004 silicone boots. Luckily the AutoZone in town had a pair in stock. Putting them on today to see how they hold up. If they don't, I guess I'll try these Detroit Axle shafts http://r.ebay.com/UQGUPI

Yeah! I haven't had any problems yet with mine and I went offroading last night. *knock on wood* I've also been looking around and have found some protective sleeves to put over the boot to protect it from debris and rocks. So I might buy some of those for when I go offroading...

So, plan is to replace axles when I swap my front diff.... A1 Cardone Select or Detroit Axle? They are comparable in price, both have neoprene boots, A1 are brand new, and DA are reman's.....

I have a 2 1/2-3" suspension strut block lift....so longevity is a concern

Thanks

Cardones ripped far to easy for me to ever use them again. I found the Detroit and I do not think anyone that has bought them since has complained.
