the body lift only lifts the body. You add spacers between the body and the frame, this gives more room for larger tires, better approach angle, and more room for suspension travel.

A suspension lift is what will lift the entire vehicle

Is the body lift something that someone can do in their driveway with minimal mechanic knowledge?

Yes. The Liftmeister kit has pretty good directions and he answers all questions pretty quickly. If you have the 6 cylinder engine, the directions are quite clear (5.3 V8s need a radiator bracket modification).

I installed my body lift in the back yard with a floor jack, 4 jack stands and hand tools.

I second that, I did mine alone in my garage and I'm 17. The hardest part is messing with the steering extension and trying to get the new cover on over it.

To me the hardest part was cutting the rear bumper brackets. That made me nervous as I tow a bass boat a lot. I would say none of it is really hard. Just read through Mark's directions and possibly the ones Zone has as well to get an idea. I did mine alone as well. I think I used two floor jacks and air tools helps with those long body bolts.

LOL I completely forgot about having to do the rear bumper. That is actually the hardest part, but it's still not too bad. Just make sure you measure about 86 times and cut once lol. I cut mine up with an oxy torch so it didn't take too long.

I forgot about the bumpers too! Rear was a little challenging. I used an electric sawzall.
