Rattling in rear of 06 Envoy after liftmeister 2.5" leaving

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

by The_Convoy_ » Fri Mar 25, 2016 9:17 pm

I just installed a 2.5" lift/leveling kit from MarkMC and keep having a rattling noise from the rear end when hitting small bumps. The best way to describe the sound is clacking and rattling like from pulling a trailer. It sounds exactly like I'm pulling a trailer except the sound is in the rear. I've looked and everything looks tightened down good.

I have the same thing, I have no idea what it is, unless it's the spacer's flopping around. I even used a 30" pry bar on various part's and couldn't find anything loose.

OK I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've heard other lifted trucks do it but never knew if it was OK or not. Thanks

Oh, I'm waiting for someone else to chime in lol. I'll actually be tearing mine back apart this weekend for some taller springs, but if anyone has some insight, I'd love to know.

are both you guys running stock shocks? If not have use enough washers on the lower shock?

perhaps your stock shocks are topping out with the lift and springs?
Or it is your spacer rattling around if you didn't put some RTV on it before install (a trick from the Roadie)

That sounds like it, I did not RTV it before hand at all.

Most likely Robert is right. The lower shock mounts are wider than most after market shocks. Assuming that's your noise, a few washers on each side will quiet it down.

Check the lower shock mount first for the spacing. I have 5 body washers on each side of mine and it snugged up fine.

yeah, I had the same rattle, I think it took like 12 washers(6 each side) and pretty much no play for the rattle to go away.

my rear sway bar bushings took a crap after my lift. the lift changed the position of the sway bar and allowed movement.

but yea, check all bolts and nuts to make sure everything is snug. I didnt remove anything at all except my shocks.

I also noticed on a few trailblazers, the exhaust shield comes loose above the muffler in the center of truck. not the resonator towards the end, if loose, you may get a noise.

let us know when you find it. Also check those sway bar links. you must have them loaded to check for looseness. at least i have found them easier this way. changed the positioning may reveal a gap to cause knocking.

My front ball joints also started making noise. old stuff just wears out.

The exhaust shield above the muffler does make a racket, I've had mine have a bolt pull through, a washer and reinstall of the bolt fixed it up.

All of that crap is gone from mine lol.

About a month ago I put new springs in the back, and coated my now cut down spacers with silicone, no more strange sounds.
