More front end lift

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

by captnewt » Tue Dec 02, 2014 11:33 pm

Is there any bigger springs or any aftermarket parts available to lift the front end in addition to a 3 inch lift spacer?

Have you read the factory spring part numbers and associated lift sticky thread yet?

No but I read somewhere where they have moog springs and a 89 spring. Do you know how much the 89 springs lifts?

I was indirectly urging you to read it.

Okay so I read the chart and I was a bit confused. Would the 88 or the 89 have more of a lift for a 2002 4wd?

they would have more of a lift for any year, it's higher spring rate then your stock Springs which give you more lift

Okay so you're saying the 89 gives the most amount of lift?

If you don't have extra weight on the front end I wouldn't go with 89's.....

Sounds like you should just order Radflo's

Keep in mind with 89s and the 3" lift I was blowing up shocks on a semi regular basis. Both with and without a bumper with a winch. It's fairly well documented on here.

The 2.5" lift and 89s seem to be a pretty durable combo. That combo has been airborne on a couple trucks and still held together.

Alright you think I'll still go through shocks even if I don't go offroad much? May turn it into more of a pavement princess, spent about 5 grand on broken parts from off-roading so may give it a break for awhile

IIRC Jason broke most of shocks on pavement going over NYC pot holes. If you spent 5k so far why not get radflo's adjustable lift stock - ~3.5"+ strut spring combo. Rebuildable

My first shock broke on the highway. Ripped the threads off the shock shaft. I didn't realize what had happened until I went to disassemble it and the whole thing exploded a foot from my face. I'd strongly recommend you read this thread...
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3283

My build thread has a rundown of rebuilding a CV, there's also a thread "cv boot that stays together" that you'll probably want to search for and read. I'm reasonably sure the aftermarket CV shafts have a cunt hair more flex. Stock CVs always give me a fit when I try to swing them outta the knuckle with just the upper a arm off the spindle, in contrast the aftermarket ones seem to slide outta the knuckle without much issue. I haven't measured the angles, so take it with a grain of salt until somebody does. Either way, functionally it doesn't really matter. Don't forget to toss a few washers on the shock to gain a bit more travel when you lift it. It does make a difference.

I would encourage you to do some more reading on here, there's a lot of good info and it's largely tech dense. A few hours reading will save you from experiencing a lot of the teething pains we've had a long the way.

Alright thanks for the info. I'll be sure to take a look. Once I figure out how to upload a picture I'll upload a pic of a guys TB inside a 4WD magazine. I don't know if you've seen it but he's got 3 body 3 suspension and the rest of his suspension (coils, control arms, and cv joints) are all Moog's. Not sure if you guys are familiar them but they offer a spring that gives 1.25 more lift for the front for only $50 a pair so I may get those instead of a 88 or 89.

You do realize there are entire threads here dedicated to those springs don't you?
