Moog Spring Rates

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

I was able to get some info from Moog about their springs, it seems they all have the same spring rate but different free lengths/loads. I can neither confirm nor deny any info below.

Spring 81110
Bar Diameter .671

So if they are all the same spring rate..... Then which one is rated the same as the 86,87,88,89's.(I'm not very knowledgable on springs and rates)

Andrew, I don't understand the science of it well enough to tell you that.
I would say the one with the heavier design load would be closer to 89s but I'm not sure.

The 81114 look the same as my 83s(i think?) Except they have an extra turn.

I'm doing a lot of research before I jump in to my build(plus I'm saving up to do it all at once). So I'm just trying to get springs that won't destroy the bushing in the lift spacers and hold a little weight in the front ( underbody protection and brushguard ,no full bumper for me yet) so I guess I really want something close to 87/88's, maybe 81112 or 10.??

I'm running the 14's and I'd guess th to be high on the list based on the lift they gave me. With armor they'd be perfect.

Based on their numbers, their rate is equal to 65N/mm, which puts it between 85 and 85s stiffness-wise.

The only differences appear to be the free length of the springs. I may be able to do some calculations later and see what the resulting estimated lift would be.

I think its safe to assume James meant to type "between 85 and 86s"

Hey, any updates on this mystery? I'm leaning toward installing just Z71 coils in the rear with a stiffer spring in the front to match. I'm wondering which front spring to look for...

I'm running that right now 89s and Z71s. Of the ones listed, I'd go with the 14s.

These are actually a good option for people who want spring-only lift but aren't adding a ton of weight.

85 Hilux - 3RZ, dual cases, caged, 40s, chromo everything

I'm not an ME or anything so correct me if I am wrong.
If the Moog 81114 are 1.25 inches longer if they were the same spring rate would they give 1.25 inches of lift?

Since the Moogs are ~the same as 86s could you just look up the diff in the chart and add it to the 1.25 to get a pretty good idea of the lift amount?

My guess is more lift than 1.25 because of the location of the implied lift coming from strut mount to strut mount versus tire to fender. If the strut were mounted more outboard & inline with the ball joints/pivot points then yes I think I would see 1.25 of lift. Otherwise, perhaps 1.75-2" is more realistic...?

I was thinking someone who had like an 82 front that went to the 81114 would likely get about 2 inches of lift, maybe more.

I think 2 inches is pretty close based on added spring length and rate multiplied by the lever effect.

I know this thread is quite old but i didn't want to start a new thread just for this post.

Since the Moog 81110, 81112 and 81114 are all the same rate (375 lbs) and the only difference is their free length..... a 81114 spring could be cut down to the length of a 81110 or 81112 spring to cut down on some lift. The spring rate will not change. Just the free length.
