Front Upper Shock Bushing Failures

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

wow, those bushings are even worse than mine. How long have you had the lift on?

I got to measure the extension I have, I've been meaning to for a couple months.

Think its a harder rubber...and not a dished washer. Curious how it holds up.

Had my lift on for maybe 4 months. If you hear squeaking. Replace them ASAP or your spacer may end up like mine.

Mario, before installing those bushings, can you give us dimension specs? I'm curious if we can find another cheaper source - or a source that might work better.

Wow, how much time have you spent offroad? Mine looked better than that after 9 months... they needed replaced at 9 mo but the spacer wasn't even close to seeing damage yet.

Might have been installed about 6 months. Forgot I was letting my mom drive the truck while hers as down. Hers was down for a while. Truck only seen a few trips off road. Mainly on a washed board road, about 5 miles out and back. Who knows what could have happened to them while mom drove the truck.

I don't see a lip OD on this listing, but it looks like this could potentially work for the BDS lift. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ENS-9-8145G/ $6.95

Shock Bushing Outside Diameter (in): 1.875 in.
Shock Bushing Inside Diameter (in): 0.563 in.
Bushing Length (in): 0.813 in.
Sold as a set of 4.

Lip looks chamfered though, instead of being at 90 degrees.

Those bushings look mighty similar to the ones for marks lift.

The biggest question now is wheather the poly bushings will transmit too much force to the shock and tear the threads out after topping out.

BDS are poly. Mark's are rubber.

I had the same damn thing happen to me on our trip. Still needs fixing, but I can't seem to find a bushing anywhere.

I'm not really surprised, it's well documented that the shock is heavily side loaded. The bushing is the only thing keeping things straight. If you don't keep an eye on them the shock rod is going to eat through everything around it since it's hardened and is working in a sawing motion. the more lift you have the more extreme the wear is.

I got off the phone with the nearest BDS distributor a few hours ago, I should have replacement bushings, sleeves and washers by next Tuesday for $19. Only my passenger size is in bad shape though, but I figured I might as well just get all the hardware.

So for those who have replaced the bushings.

Do I need to take any extra precautionary steps when removing the strut assembly? or is the washer large enough to hold the strut assembly together?
This is an aggressive post. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate a post of this quality and depth.

Another respectful treatment by the "No Fine Print Warranty" management at BDS. :finger:
