z71+2" spacers

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

by Rob93 » Mon Aug 23, 2010 9:40 pm

Today I tried adding the z71 springs to my rear setup of marks 2" spacers.... I disconnected the shocks and panhead bar and dropped the axle as much as I could and couldn't get the stiff z71s on top of the spacer... I tried to muscle them in with a crowbar but no luck...
I put everything back together now since I have school in the morning.

Any tips?

I think my best bet is renting the compressors from advance auto and compressing them before putting them in tomorrow..
Maybe disconnect the control arms and drop the axle more?

Unbolting your swaybar should help. I used spring compressors when I did mine.

What's the downward limiting element?

The swaybar binds up first.

Compressors FTW. What I did was put the Z71 spring in by itself and jack up the rear to compress it. I then snugged the compressors on and let the jack back down, shoved in the spacer, jacked the rear back up, loosened the compressors, and repeated for the other side. Your brake line could also be running out of slack.

I was checking all the lines, i disconnected them all from the frame for slack... ^ but this is a good idea! It seems when I'm wrenching on the truck I never seem to think of the easier ways to do things

I just disco'ed the sway, unhooked shocks, and pushed the spring up and they slipped in...well they are in, wasnt easy but doable...

When Regulator and I put my lift on (without Z71's) a hydraulic floor jack turned out to make it the easiest to put the spacer in. There was plenty of leftover room, but I have no idea how much longer they are when uncompressed.

There is your answer. Good luck

That's what I did and it worked like a charm.

Got them in... too dark for pics right now
But the rear rides STIFF, i feel like i'm topping out the shock over every bump... I think I'm just going to order the bds shocks now, because I was planning to do it once I got all the lift on, but this is too stiff lol

Love my 9500s.

On BDS site they have a dealer locations place where you can put in your zip and they can help you out with that. Otherwise, you can order direct from them IIRC

I saw that.. nearest is about an hour away... it was 15$ to ship to my house and I'd spend that in gas anyways

Annoyance for sure. I luckily had a set of Z71 shocks already. I threw them on after my first trip out with the springs. BDS' should be going on order next week, along with a few other things.

Diggin that post count, Brendan

I ordered mine from Fat Bob's Garage I think they've got a Back to School sale 10% off
the code is B2S2010 and they always have a military 10% off. They had BDS shocks the cheapest I could find around me.
