It goes directly into the open 7.2" carrier (what we have). I have a pinion seal that's leaking so I'm going to need to get to my front diff at some point anyway. Locks up when power is applied from the prop shaft, releases when there's no power. They aren't known for being super bullet proof, but for sub 300hp, 4.10 gears and never seeing over 34" tires or so I'm willing to give it a go.

I think there was a very brief discussion on the OS about using it, but nothing ever came of it. I guess I'll get one and if I drop front diff bits all over the dirt I'll let you guys know.

Back to the topic... can anyone get me a picture of the top of a naked shock? Trying to visualize the thread and shoulder... I think some modification would be required in order to use an extender.

well.....The top of a naked shock looks like this

It's just a rod with the end section threaded.

but the top of our shock has a washer and a dust boot on it, so it looks like this

Yeah yeah - there are some small details that are hidden behind the upper mount bushing that I'd like to see. I know the general idea - was just looking for a detailed photo of ours.

ETA - trying to see if the top shank can be threaded more with a thread die.

Ok ok. well I think there is a sizeable difference in the top shank threaded section vs the top shank non threaded section, based upon the washer bearing on the shank. I think you would have to lathe down the shank to thread it further. On a side note I found some extensions at McMaster Carr that would thread onto our shock

I can try that with a friend when I get back, except all testing would be done on the stock black Bilsteins, which are the ones I took off when I did the lift.
This is an aggressive post. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate a post of this quality and depth.

I think the shank sizes are the same or very close on both, so that would work. I'd have already posted pics but I just took all my stock pieces of the truck to storage last week.

None of them have the right size or length. I had looked there before. I have another idea up my sleeve, but it will require significantly more work.

Still just need a close up picture of the end of the shock... shoulder to end of threads.

I'm pretty sure the HDs are threaded most if all of the way down, with no notch between the threaded and non-threaded portion. That would make the part you're asking about 10mm in diameter.

Wow, I'm very impressed with Bilstein customer service. I should have just called them in the first place.

Top to shoulder is 65mm
Threaded portion is 35mm
Shaft above shoulder but below threads is 9.95mm dia
