Maxing front suspension lift (split from UCA discussion)

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

I knew my cv concerns were well-founded. Now to figure out a mod to the oil pan to allow us to lower the diff. In the words of Jeremy Clarkson, "how hard could it be?"

Already on the drawing board. Think 1/4" plate steel.

I'm having good thoughts then. Sounds like I need to make a trip up NW to this new hotbed of ORTB activity.

Oh this excites me :D I think I'm going to follow along in MrSmithsTB's footsteps only I'm probably going to end up with a McOnePointFive or so using a modified markmc rear spacer. We'll see, I'm still trying to get mark to send me a set for the front as well.

That is the point in which I pick up a couple of D44s and go balls to the wall. As for now.... the second rear spacer set gets cut in half, and a set of DJM arms will get mocked up and taken to a shop to get cut down to the perfect size to run with the 2.75" I currently have. Then on to body lift & 33s.

Thanks for the pictures. You've really taken this and ran with it! :salut:

Once you get the suspension to a point you're happy with for long-term use, I'd love a writeup about everything that you learned during your investigations.

Really gives us some food for thought and motivation to mod!

The more I think about a SAS, and the more I read about WJ and ZJ owners having troubles with "death wobble" on their lifted Jeeps, the less I want to move to a SFA setup. If I end up doing that, I think I'll just cut the TB and buy a WJ to play with. I've finally gotten over my Land Rover obsession ;)

I am up a bit higher with the 88 springs and I think the angles are too extreme and causing a shimmey. If I am thinking right, I have about 5 inches suspension lift and it is too much to be usable. Time for the high pinion 44 and the 9 inch to go in.

Yep. Thanks for the help with them. I need to figure steering and give a couple people a call to check on things, but the wife is for it and I cant' freaking wait. I am going to let someone with experience do it since I don't trust my self to do the geometry or welding.

I think it is officially safe to say that the suspension limitations have been reached.

fishsticks... how about an overall picture... before and after. Curious how much of a visible difference there is.

I'm also experiencing some more vibrations in the wheel while driving around 50mph+, I keep telling myself its from my tires that are super worn and have only been balanced when they were first installed and the problem will go away after I get new ones but is the "shimmey" caused by the extra height?

Out of what? I have an extra 44. Too bad you are not closer.

Mine is only at slow speeds and under acceleration. Not even in the wheel, just in the whole front of truck. The wheel is fine. You tires are probably causing your wheel to shake. Did you get it aligned? Since the tires are super worn, when you changed springs, you changed how the tire hits the ground. the pressure is on a different area of tire.

if you didn't get alignment with the added lift, that could play a big part in it.

Plenty of rears around here to be picked up at a good price. I've decided that I won't go down that road until my baby is paid off, so about 9 months of planning to do. As far as current modding the more I analyze things, the more I don't want to stress any of the front end parts. What I might do is keep the 2" spacers all around and pull the front shims. Or keep the shims and do 1.5" rear blocks with Z71 springs. Then add body lift for tire clearance.

ried to move the motor when I turned the wheel by hand. No go.

You guys realize that the thickness of the spacer it self does not correlate to the amount of lift you will get....Right? A thinner spacer like a 3/8" will net about a 1/2"-5/8" on our truck. The strut is mounted closer to the pivot point on the lower control arm, so a little bit of movement there, is more exaggerated at the tire....
