Wheel offset

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

by sicklife17 » Tue Apr 14, 2015 6:38 pm

Ok so I have been reading for hours now and I am totally confused. I just need a simple answer. I am thinking of getting new wheels instead of spacers and I don't no what back spacing to run. I don't no if I am going to get 7-8" wide rims but either way my understanding is I need 4.5" of back space to clear 32s. Now as for off set I have no idea. But I don't really think it will matter to much.

our bolt pattern is very odd and doesnt have many selections, you will need atleast adapters to run a wheel with 4.5 backspace. and guys have 32's on stock wheels with spacers.

Dick cepek has a dc2 that is our bolt pattern in 16s with a -12 offset and 4.5 offset. I Plan on getting them with a 2" spacer so I can squeeze a set of 305/70/16 on mine with the 3.5" lift in front and 1" in back.
if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I no we have a weird bolt pattern. I would rather just run different rims then spacers so what would be the optimal back spacing to run 32s with out spacers

Also from my understanding our stock wheels have a +24 inset so therefore the rim is more in toward the vehicl, but if you had a rim with a -12 offset it would bring it out more away from the ball joint giving you more room for a taller tire.
if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You can run an aftermarket rim with 4.5" of back space as long as it has enough offset to bring the rim out to clear the ball joint.

Ok I just need a simple answer. How much back spacing/ offset is optimal to run 32s with out spacers. I need numbers most likely buy a used set this weekend and the only thing I have to go off is my handy dandy tape measure

Well you need a rim with 4.5" backspace and it has to be a offset of 0 or lower.
if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Well I re-researched the topic and cannot find the dc2s now.. I swear on everything they had a dc2 on there web page that was 16x8 with a 6x127 pattern with -12 offset.. But now it's gone.. So therefore you will have to have an adapter to fit the 6x5.5 like moots1288 said earlier.. Sorry for the confusion..

The needed offset will vary by width of the rim. Easier and more consistent to just look at backspacing. Simpler to measure if you are looking at used wheels as well.

Example:

8 inch wide wheel with 4.5 inch Backspacing is 0 offset

9 inch wide wheel with 4.5 inch Backspacing is -12 offset
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.

The sticky at the top of this page specifically answers the question in the first post! What's ideal will vary by the width of the wheel you're using and what size tire you're trying to cram in there.

What wheels do you have, Ole Blue? That is the size tire I'd like to run, but I don't think they'll clear the UBJ with the OEM rims. I like the MB wheels Chaos, which has enough backspace to work with those tires, and comes in our bolt pattern, but there aren't any to be found in North America right now.
