Goodyear Wrangler Authority A/Ts on sale

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

Been running these tires for a couple of years now. Been pretty impressed with them for the price. Had them in deep sand, steep poorly maintained back roads in western NC, and a lot of highway miles. They have a C and E load version of them in 265/70/17. Wanted to give a heads up for any one tire shopping for that size.

Ive looked at them too, but then kept walking bye. A Walmart exclusive off road wannabe tire is exactly designed for the targeted crowd. I'm not letting Walmart quality stand between me, a good trail ride and making it home safely.

I understand and respect that Opeth. I had my reservations about a wallyworld tire. I wouldn't recommend them for hard wheeling. They work well for my mission though. I use my truck mainly for camping/backpacking and moderate off roading.

Are you guys suggesting that tire is made specifically for Walmart to lower standards?

Some googling and that is what I found.

Dear Chris,

Thank you for contacting our web site and for thinking of Wrangler
Authority A/T tires for your vehicles tire needs.

The Wrangler Authority A/T is what we refer to as a "co-brand" tire. It is
manufactured exclusively for Wal Mart and its subsidiaries. It is
marketed, sold, and warranted solely by Wal Mart. The tires on our web
site are the "broad market" tires that can be found at all authorized
Goodyear retailers.

For additional information about the Wrangler Authority A/T please contact
your nearest Wal Mart automotive service center or their Customer
Assistance Center at (800)925-6278.

Sincerely,
Sue Lemmon
Consumer Relations

With the exception of a guy running it in a 3/4 ton Dodge Cummins I haven't read anything bad about it. He even said he thought it would do good in a 1/2 ton gas.

I've bought several few sets of tires from WM in the past and have had no issues with the tires. My only issue is the guys at my local WM are slow and honestly appear to be idiots. I expect this changes from store to store.

Jason, let us know how they turn out for you.

Two local jeep guys have blown belts in theirs, I can't find where I read it but I saw another one where the tread began to delaminate from the carcass itself almost like it was a re-tread. No thanks, but good luck!

Been running a set for about two years. They have worked well for my needs. Just bought two more for a spare, since they were on sale. My WM would not install them since they didn't match the size in their book. Took them to a local tire shop and had them put on. The guys there were convinced they wouldn't fit. They rubbed a little, but that wasn't a big deal.

The rubber compound is very soft and grabby, but they wear pretty good. The tread lugs are tall, and the tread pattern works really well for an A/T. Not too loud either.

I can post up some pics of them. New vs Old

The fact that this tire is the only tire GoodYear will not warrantee speaks volumes for me. That is why I spent the extra money and went for the DuraTracs. No regrets.

I'm not specifically against a tire made for Walmart. I am however disappointed that it bears the Goodyear name. I've had good luck with Goodyear tires for years. Thank you guys for bringing this to my attention, especially that Goodyear won't warranty the tire.

If WM warranties the tire do you really need GY to warranty the tire? That is likely how WM gets them so cheaply. WM handles the warranty on the tire so GY doesn't have to. They can afford to eat the cost of the replacements (if there are any) because they up sell the road hazard warranty.

I agree. WM has enough buying power (i.e. ALL OF IT) that they can get manufacturers to make them whatever special product that they want, and if somebody ran the numbers and found that WM can warranty them cheaper than GY can (i.e. up-selling the warranty), then they'll absolutely make a special tire with no GY warranty for WM.
