Biggest tires that can fit

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

by jpawlicki » Mon May 19, 2014 1:22 pm

I have a 2003 Trailblazer LS 4.2L and recently purchased and installed a 2" Trailblazer Body Lift kit as well as put a 2 inch suspension lift.
I want to install the largest tires I can for this configuration.
I currently have 31 inch tires on 16 inch rims on it but had to install a spacer kit to clear the ball joints.
So I am flexible with modifications.
Please let me know, any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

John,

There are lots of great things to read within this forum. Start clicking away and you will find the answers. The question you ask is answered many times here. Go to build threads and start looking, it will help. Check the stickies in each section also. They are there for you John.

Good luck

The build thread chart should answer that question for you. I don't know how to insert links using tapatalk but its under offroad... build threads...

First thing you need to figure out is what gearing you have, the gearing will limit what you safely can run without frying the tranny down the road. I would add to your build budget to install a tranny cooler with bypass to be on the safe side. Cheap insurance for about $70. Look in glove box for RPO codes. Also even with the body lift you may have to trim fender steel to fit bigger tires.

GU6 = 3.42
GT4 = 3.73
GT5 = 4.10
G80 = auto mech locker
2008 TB Radflo coil overs, Z71 rear springs, 2" spacer, skyjacker N8030 shocks, LT285/75R16E Goodyear MTR

Does anyone have suggestions on what might be considered safe for tire sizes versus gear ratio? I was just thinking maybe I could add a red zone to the gear ratio calculator to indicate when your tire size might be damaging to the drivetrain.

Ah yeah, I just posted in that thread regarding the same thing, since I probably really need to be running a cooler on mine as well.

All above has been discussed. Seriously, some of you should no better. Not trying to be critical, but come on.

32's with a cooler is considered he limit on 3.42's.

Anything over 31's without a cooler is foolish. 33's or worse 34-35 on 3.42 without a cooler is stupid.
Once lifted 03 Trailblazer on 35's, gave it up to travel the USA with my family.
