We do. The gas mileage sucks though, and you have to be careful not to put too much stress on the rear to the point you'll grenade it. We'll be upgrading to 4.10s by summer.

4.56 would probably yield you guys better results.

I did for awhile. 3.73s were not great n 4.10s are better but I wish I had lower.

Can you be more specific? What didn't you like? What will the 4.56 do for you?

If gearing was lower it would help keep the trans locked up during interstate driving. Anything over 65 n it still wants to drop lockup which heats the trans and hurts mpg.

Even with 4.10s? That's not encouraging.

Guess we'll have to rethink our approach to how we want to re-gear.

At 60 I was seeing 18-21 mpg with the lower profile roof rack this weekend. Anything up top really affects these trucks. My highway experience was improved by the lower drag as well. Just something to think about with all y'all are doing.

I've recently added Dirty Anton, Regulator and corrected MikeKey's as well.
I'll add Ben once I get a little more info from him.

Thanks Chris.

:hijack:

My wife forgot that our MPG's we measured are not accurate because of the difference in tire size, the same way the speedometer is off. The odometer is reporting as though we traveld a shorter distance. The car was telling us we where getting 10MPG but I believe that number to be closer to 14~15 MPG.

We haven't had problems with the transmission staying locked up, but that could have a lot to do with our rebuild. She stayed locked at 70mph during our trip with a heavy roof rack. The rack does seem to effect these vehicles to some degree.

I'm on the hunt for an SS rear end. The question right now is which lower gear set will be the best combo for long haul road trips and off road. I need something decent for FL to Utah and not just decent for hill climbs over rocks.

Just noticing that with the increase in temps here over the last few days that to stay locked up I need to travel a bit slower, which causes traffic issues. Yesterday was all but impossible to stay locked up over 50 mph, but that was with 90+ temps and a strong crosswind.

If you swap the rear end for a ss then what would you use on the front if you have a 4WD, as far as I know SS models are only 2WD, correct me if I am wrong

Think they are AWD but I could be wrong. I think Kyle just swaped the front diff with the SS front diff. You shouldn't lose 4wd cause your not having to mess with those specific parts thats what I'd assume. Cause all TB and Envoys use the same front diff no matter 4wd or 2wd.

You are right, I was wrong, I did my re-search and also called my friend who owns a SS and it is AWD

if you swap a SS rear with 4.10 gears, you usually have to re-gear the front or swap in a 4.10 front diff.

Why would a 2WD truck have a front differential? :slap:

Some TBSS are AWD and some are regular 2WD. The AWD was an option.

The only difference between a 4WD and an AWD on these trucks is the transfer case. NP4 and NP8.

I think it's well established you have to regear the front. I'm just looking for what I can find at a good price with low mileage, I may regrear both front and rear since 4.10's are the lowest gear to come from the factory. If I chose to go with 4.56 or something.
