Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

So... it has probably happened to all of us... at one point or another. Maybe we misjudged a mud pit, maybe we feathered the gas a little, etc. Whatever the reason, post up a pic and briefly describe what happened. I'll go first...

I couldn't make it out to TECORE in April... but I really badly wanted to get a little bit of mud in my tires... so I took to this unmarked road in Freehold, NJ. All went well until I got to this mud pit. I feathered the gas a little instead of keeping it constant, and I sunk in like a weight on a fishing line. I couldn't even get it out in 4lo... it just sank deeper and deeper. I was the only vehicle there, so I couldn't get pulled out. Luckily, I had my hi-lift, some chain, my rear d-shackle, and the Off-Road Kit for the Hi-Lift, which included a tree saver strap and the winching attachments. After winching myself back a little, I finally got her on more solid ground and was able to pull out...

finally out... notice the chain behind the truck. That Hi-Lift worked like a charm!!

Glad you were able to self-rescue! Always a good feeling.

So how far did you have to winch via the Hi-Lift? Oh, and how scary was the hi-lift in a horizontal situation (those things freak me out)

The tree used was about 20ft away. The hi-lift freaked me out a little bit, but as long as you use it properly, its very safe and works very well.

Now, where are the pics of the teebesmobile stuck????

It seems that the hi-lift during a winch recovery would be much safer. It's in tension, so it's self-straightening, and thus stable.

I agree though, using the hi-lift to lift the vehicle can really scare the piss outa ya if the base slips or you don't have the vehicle properly chocked.

I'm planning to go over some of the basics during TECORE...

And I have two... from the same trip:

Here, I thought I'd be able to just drag across the rock, but the rock proved to be too high. I considered locking up the rear end and scooting forward, but I was worried about breaking something (this was right after Bill had grenaded his rear end). We ended up lifting the front end with the hi-lift and stuffing a bridging ladder under the tire. That wasn't enough traction still, so the jeep in front of me gave me a quick 2' tug... which was all it needed.

Image

The second is not as obvious, because you don't see my rear tires. The front had already gone over a large rock which slid down the frame to the rear... however, as you can see, there was now a large rock in front of my front tire... so there were large rocks in front of either tire. So I wasn't really stuck, but I couldn't make forward progress without the bridges. Once I used the bridges, I was able to power out after the rear end locked. A bit o frame carnage though. Oh well! :safari:

I was In the jersey pine barrens hittin some trails alone without a winch or hi-lift  when I got stuck in a sand/water hole . I went in on the right side a bit to keep my side tailpipe and intake out of the water just in case this happened. That's about 2 feet from the ground to the water line. The rear reflector was almost completely submerged (glad it still works). Might have been a little deep for my rig. :thumleft: . I was wishin' I had M/Ts that day :hissyfit:

Sorry for the lack of pix while it was stuck. Since I was alone and swimming, pictures were the furthest thing from my mind. I had to walk out of the trail till I found someone to pull me out.

Sure wish Chevy installed an interior rear window opener on our trucks. Would have been alot dryer to get to my D-ring for the tow strap.

Way back when, when i had first gone offroading only a few times, i was driving through a path, and on the outskirt of the road was a old well or water drainage hole that was covered up, i hit it and got stuck pretty bad... if i had had a lift and tires... it might not have been so bad, but the ground was hard sand, so it was really hard to not spin with street tires. We ended up yanking me out with my friends 1500 Blazer.

Then When i was in Wharton with Mario, i went through a deep pit in one direction (the correct way) then i tried going through the other way... well i found out the hard way right before it gets out of the pit, it drops of a foot. When we went through the right way we did it in 2wd... the other way 4lo didn't help at all.

so:coffee: :coffee2:
ok it was spring thaw and i was messing around in a park that wasnt built yet(just the ground was prepared-ish)

well long story short a few mins after we started we ran into a loose spot going WAY too fast,30+
and it bogged down, took like a second or 2 to stop completely.
all i had for traction adders was some cardboard to throw under the tires, which did nothing to help.

did not break a damn thing, but i still have some dried mud inside the frame,im sure of it.

man that was some thick stuff.
