Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Advice for the new guy!

Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

Okay, so I bought an 08 TB 4wd LT and I want to do some upgrades. I've ordered the Rough Country leveling kit, Moog rear springs (for the Z71 Tahoe) and I'm going to be running factory size tires in Kumho AT51's. Should I go ahead and get the Bilstein shocks now or can I wait? Also, front springs, I haven't read about people replacing them much on here. This is going to be a work/hunting vehicle. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Sounds like the start of a nice build. My thoughts, for what they're worth: since you're buying new tires, and mildly lifting the truck, go from the stock 29" dia. up to 30 or 30.5", which won't require spacers for clearance, and gain the extra 1/2" to 3/4" in axle clearance. That small an increase in tire size won't have too much effect on gearing, even if you only have the 3.42s (probable). Front springs are usually only replaced if they are sagging, or if you are adding weight to the front, as in a steel fabbed bumper and/or a winch. If you're happy with the present ride in the front, and you don't have excessive miles on them, you could retain the stock front Bilsteins, but most on here have upgraded to the Bilstein HDs in the strut, and love them, or go to the RadFlo coilovers, which are pricey, rebuildable, and the hardcore guys swear by them.

A little more info on the truck would help with planning, too. What's the mileage, which gearset is in it, and does it have the G80 locker? And post a picture or 3, we love the photos!

Lol, I'm not sure if I have the G80. I don't know where to look for an identifier. I'm that new. I'm not doing the steel bumper for a while. They do look sharp though. I've read about the Bilstein HD's on here. I may order them before doing any work so I don't have to do it twice. The mileage is just at 70k, gear set, I don't know. I'll post pics in a few. I have to remember my photobucket password.

Yea. A lot of that info is in glove box.
if your sticker shows "G80" then you have it
GU6 = 3.42
GT4 = 3.73
GT5 = 4.10

Also, there's a stickied thread on here with the codes for your front springs so you know what you have under there. I'd suggest writing it all down so you don't have to search for it everytime you need it.

I saw the GT4 code in the glove box but nothing else. I'll take a picture of it.
