Backup Alarms Anyone ?

Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

dont know how many times whether it be on the trail in a group or out in public someone gets right behind you or in the rear blindspot

& I have a neighbor kid that likes riding behind me when I backup..which is another can of worms

I originally decided to be frugal ($13) & got the first one in the following photo

onto the story

...the back up alarm me & my son installed last Sept died a slow death over the course of the winter

it seemed to dislike the extreme -temperatures we had here in VT this winter

the colder it got, the worse it sounded until it died

here's the old unit which was very loud, more of a treble sound

so I upgraded after returning the defective one to the parts store & paid the price difference of $24, this one is supposedly commercial, hopefully it lasts

video of the new backup alarm later

I think its an inexpensive protection policy hopefully

I've considered them, but never could justify it enough to myself

I think they are super annoying on our trucks at work. If I'd add anything, it'd be a video camera.

I'm with James, I have to listen to em on the trucks at work pretty regularly, and generally anything that makes me think of work when i'm not at work makes me want to bang my head into the wall until I'm unconscious. As always, YMMV.

When I hear, beep... beep..beep, I think of fat girls... I have some other issues going on though.

Sounds like there is a story behind that.

If they are that bad on the trail...F them. Most I ride with know basic trail etiquette and if not, they pick it up real quick. Alarm won't help and will just annoy me.
I hate to advocate weird chemicals, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone...but
they've always worked for me.

I bought one a while back but never installed it, maybe this spring.

I'm planning on getting it wired through a relay though, so I can turn it off it I need/want to. I helped a roommate install one on his F-150 back in college, but his setup involved running wire between the backup light and a switch in the cab, so 2x the amount of wire to run, slightly cheaper i think, but in the end it was still pretty neat.

Many years ago my dad had a work truck that had one, also had a 5/8 wavelength VHF antenna on the roof, so between the scraping of the antenna on the garage ceiling and the alarm, I'm sure the neighbors hated us.
This is an aggressive post. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate a post of this quality and depth.
