Kinetic recovery rope

Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

I have a question about using a recovery rope and not having enough space for it to fully extend. Say for example the rope is 20 feet but I don't have 20 feet of space to use is there a way to safely shorten the rope without compromising it? Like a certain way of routing it?

Shackles, then double it over making sure it's not twisted.

Use a shorter recovery rope/strap

Just be careful when its doubled over, because you are basically quadrupling its stiffness. AKA, it will still give, but only a 1/4 as much as it would whole.

Theoretically, it would be better to tie off one end if you only needed half its length, because then you'd only double its stiffness, but I doubt any of our skills enough not to recommend that route, unless you know how to tie a figure 9 knot in webbing. Still might be impossible to get undone after you pull on it a bunch.
